My first task with my Scamp rebuild is to find some imperial box section to repair some of the chassis.
So far I have only found one company in the Midlands who can supply what I am after can anyone else suggest anywhere ?
Size I need is 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 box section with a wall thickness of 3mm or 10swg.

Sorry should have said steel. 40mm square is the normal size now but the imperial size comes up at 38mm.
I rang Parkers to see if they could help but haven't heard back from them yet.

I just called the two places in the same estate as my office, which is in Edinburgh unfortunately, who both said they can get it but they don't stock it. Might take a week they said. Not sure if that helps much because it's so far. Maybe you just need to phone around a bit of a wider area to find someone who'll order it?

Thanks very much for that. I don't think I will find anywhere very close who does it. I have found 2 places now, one said they could only get the thickness I wanted if I bought a truck load and the other Steel Express said they can supply some but I will just have to cough up for the delivery.
I've been involved with engineering for years but haven't been involved with ordering anything. I guees it all comes from the same place it's just a case of finding a company who stock it and are prepaired to see it in smaller quantities.

How much do you need? I'm sure our supplier could help but it will probably be a 6mtr length.

I'm probably going to need that much ! Thanks for the offer but because I am down in Hampshire I would need to get it delivered. I was a bit out with the thickness I needed. I measured it properly and think it should actually be 12swg, I don't think as much has rusted away as I thought !
I need to work out what I need length wise properly. It's for the scamp I have just bought and I'm considering getting enough to make a new windscreen surround and box section cage for it, plus the repair and strengthening sections.

Fair enough. You should find a steel stockist somewhere nearby. As you're looking at a full length it should make it easier.

Have you tried the metal supermarket in Northam, Southampton (SO14 area) or shop4metal in Camberley?

Not tried either but will have a look thanks. There must be loads of places around just a matter of finding them.
