My new car has some ugly large square turn signals mounted in the grill that I'd like to change for round ones. However I started searching and found Lucas 7" headlights with pilot light fittings and this got me wondering; Could I wire the pilot lights in the headlights for turn signals? That way I'd get an even cleaner look to my car as I could remove the turn signals in the grill all together Legal or not? Would they be visable when running the main beam on?

Probably won't be visible enough with the headlights turned on. Can't you hide the indicators behind the grille?

That's what I'm afraid of, but with 55w main beam and a 21w amber pilot light I was hoping it might work. I'd really like to delete the front turn signal lights to clean up the front of the car.

Are the currently part of the grille? You'd be surprised at the difference of hiding them behind it and flashing them over with a bit of matt black makes. I don't think you'd get on very well with the indicators actually inside the headlight. Plus if it's headlights with a pilot window rather than hole it'll be ever worse trying to get the light to look bright enough
What car are you doing it to?

Honestly, just tint them with flyeyes, laminex or just a dusting of matt black, the difference will be immense, they are already quite 'hard to spot' where they currently are, blending them in will make them disappear. Is that YOUR car or a google find? Lovely stuff!

Why not just fit the small Lucas indicators that most other Vixens have? You could even get clear lenses with amber bulbs.

Is that YOUR car or a google find? Lovely stuff! Yes that is my car. Pic was taken by prevoius owner and then used in the TVR Blog. Regarding the turn signals I might just try using the pilot lights. If it doesn't work I can always go back to small round ones as suggested by Porsche

There should be no bleeding of light colour. i.e amber should show amber/ white show white with no mixing which it won't do as the amber will light up the whole headlight reflector. An MOT tester might pass/ advise it but traffic cop will take a very different view especially if you are involved in a prang.
I would try to borrow a 7 inch light off someone to do a visual check before committing.

I like that idea buts it could be a very expensive experiment.

Rather than using the Lucas round pointy lights you could get some subtle side repeaters/motorbike lights tucked in the corner of the grille. I used the 'Oval fairing indicators' from here once before - you can get 21W bulbs that fit. link

I can't really help with the indicator placement - but your car is absolutely stunning.

I've got the same issue with my hot rod , I've used the side light with a 21w cap less bulb used in high level brake lights painted orange which seems ok but those lamps are ideal . I've not found them on the net either

They may not be E marked. One of the kit car type suppliers was telling me at a show last year how many of the cheaper of those 'crystal' 7" lights aren't.
