Winner - head off and given a once over all appeared ok. In the risk to build it up it looks like dad left a bit of the old gasket on it tho. Cleaned out all up and rebuilt the head checking the timing again on the way. Final at about 5pm today I got it running no probs oh apart from an oil leak, the little rubber oring under the head I forgot to put in or it moved!! Oil out the side so it's of again for the last time tomorrow.
On the bright side with the twin carbs and 4 branch I xan leave all that attached wgen taking the head off.
So, low compression caused by dirt left on the head (thanks dad) who'd of thought!!

I'm loving mine so far - not actually driven it yet ( or any other imp ) I hear the brakes are exciting lol Nothing wrong with the brakes on an imp - like any drum braked car, they need adjusting properly - providing the slave cylinders are not leaking they're absolutely fine. What makes you think they're 'exciting'?
