Nice wheels. Do you have compressed air? I was wondering also at buying some wheels with some corrosion/damage, and they are also a pain to sand down (turbines). Thinking of buying a cheap soda blasting thing for the job (arounf £50 here in Finland where everything is expensive so should be cheaper there?)... Will be waiting for the end result on these, how you prep and paint these...
I'm sure they will look good on the car! BTW, will you be keeping the same colour on the wheels (no brown on the center etc.)?

Just found out my mate has a sand blasting cabinet so gonna see if I can use that, I'll let you know about the result mate. I am considering maybe gold or bronze centres...

Quick update, nothing too interesting. It did the 1000 mile round trip to Cornwall again with no issues, and absolutely zero water loss despite a 2 hour tailback on the M5 somewhere between Cullompton and the seventh circle of hell. Total comfort, but fuel economy wasn't right good and the heater fan started sounding like a 2 stroke engine, which completely spoilt the Asia album I was listening to. So I decided as soon as I got home I'd give it a full service and change the blower, literally as soon as I got home with no procrastination. So, 4 weeks later I got started... Another order to ECP, I get trade price so the heater motor, oil, air and fuel filters, 6 litres of Triple QX 10w-40 semi synth (5+1 litres for topping up because it uses some) and some Triple QX screenwash was only £64. I've been servicing it every 5k, because when the service stuff is less than £30 I'd rather do it fairly often. Scuttle trim came off in 2 parts, someone has been here and broke it before it seems... I snapped the little red hose off wrestling with the wiper motor, is it important? What is it? What an absolute **insert swear word here** it was to get to this point... As you can see... Bloody captive nut popped out without me noticing and disappeared so this will do for now until I can get my MIG back off a mate... Gave it a clean afterwards as well... Didn't take any pics of changing oil and filters because that's even more boring than what I've already posted. Surprised if anyone is still reading by this point  So decided a good book, a pork pie and a couple of decent pints by an open fire were called for. And while I was sat there a lad came in and asked who owned "The cool old Merc" in the car park, and offered me a grand for it

Thanks mate. I've decided against the new wheels as well and they're up for sale, the AMG fakes have grown on me.

I like this lots A 190E is very much on the list of cars to own for me. A 2.6 would be lovely but actually a base-spec machine like yours would be an excellent foil to the S-class.

I do love it, but the 2.6 is in a different league, its a far nicer drive, and I doubt there's much between them fuel wise.

So, another slight update. I've basically been abusing the curse word out of it as always, using it to drag a heavy trailer full of my mates curse word when he moved house, winter daily, not cleaning it, so here's some photos of it looking grotty and with the tow bar fitted... Also, the new tow bar will now have this on it... It's an Elddis Wisp 350/2, 2 berth with a huge bed, full cooker, big fridge for beer, hot and cold running water, nice hot shower and a cassette toilet, can be towed by pretty much anything as it weighs 680kg, and even has a brown stripe to match the Benz so no more tents for me and more weekends away. Gonna be great at shows seeing everyone drinking warm beer and queuing for toilets and showers. Just needs a battery and an awning, not bad for £450. As for the future of the Benz, not sure. Fuel economy matters a bit more now I have the caravan, I'd be surprised if I can average 20mpg with this on, and with the MOT running out next month it seems like a good time to get it tested and move on...

Nah, I always think 190s look good with a layer of grime on as well as being shiny. It's always nice to see an old car that can still work for its living. Mine looks pretty much the same as yours, cant keep the thing clean at the moment.
Love the set up with the colour coded caravan as well!

Cheers lads. I really hope it's tolerable on fuel with the caravan on because I don't want rid of it, if I could manage 25mpg it'd probably stay, it does about 35mpg on a run solo and it isn't a heavy caravan so fingers crossed.
MOT is due next month, and apart from a blowing exhaust and knocking top mounts I can't see it failing on anything to be honest.

Give it a try, you may be surprised. My old F-i-L used to tow a fairly big van behind Subarus which are not known for stunning frugality and he noticed only a little difference in consumption. Just make sure that the van wheel bearings are properly sorted, which a lot of folk ignore, and that you don't succumb to the temptation to throw everything including the kitchen sink in there! Or get a Range Rover to pull it with. 16-20mpg no matter what's on the back

Well, took it for it's first outing with the caravan on, just a quick test run to a site near Holmfirth. Very stable and composed, no snaking, and really easy to maneuver with the crazy steering lock these Mercs have, but I really struggled for power. Up hills on the M62 I was struggling to hold 45mph! Think it's going to have to go

Would be a shame for you to have to move it on Liam. Let us know if you do make the decision though, I might know somebody who would be interested in buying it.

It's a definite mate. I've already revived the swap thread for it, although I can't sell it outright until I find something else. I'm after a PSA diesel to replace it because I've had loads and they make brilliant dailys, so 306, 405, 406, 605, Xsara, Xantia, or XM. Then I'll use what I save on fuel to insure a second car, fancy an MX5. Just wish I had the time to OM605/OM606 the 190.
