Cosworth v6 boa gearbox options

I want to convert a BOA to manual gearbox, but I'm getting conflicting advice.

Anybody done it and can shares truths?!

needs a v6 cologne bell housing, with either a 4wd if applicable or rwd box both in mt75 or type 9 set up.... the 2.8 xr4i box fits, you need to match flywheel and starter to the set up as well.

As said above the mt75 or type 9 come in V6 versions which bolt straight up to the BOA. Going on the reading up on it I did years ago when looking to convert an XR4i there are issues with both -

Problem with the type 9 is that the BOA is on the limit for torque, it might last for ever or die with in 500 miles (seemed to depend on driving style). There are mods which help the box cope - IIRC a strengthened top plate to help stop the casing flexing with the torque

Problem with the mt75 is Ford did not sell any cars with a V6 RWD version in the UK market. You can make one up using parts from the V6 4x4 box and the I4 RWD box but IIRC the casing needs a press to get it apart and back together so not an easy DIY solution

You need to check out this site, I had a BOB engine with a BOA Loom fitted, a T9 box,modded with a 5mm strengthened top plate,and it handled the power ok, but go here anyway, helped me out heaps, with electrical loom probs, box probs etc..

v6 or diesel type 9 with the strenghtening plate and a softly approach to driving will be OK for most applications.
MT75 as said is a rare find in v6 format and rwd as the bellhousing is integral to the box
T5 is the strongest option, but a separate bellhousing will be required

The 24v (BOB and BOA) share the same bellhousing pattern as the 12v cologne and the 4.0 variant as well, but is not the same as the old Essex engines

The later se6b scimitars used the 2.8 cologne, fastened to the old 4 speed overdrive type f zodiac box. In theory this should also fit then?

I'm running a 24v cossie in my mk3 tina, used a t9 box from a xr4i and had no problems with it, don't use automatic transmission fluid in it. and your kill the box if you want to go drag racing with it, but is ok for normal(ish) driving, also use a spigot bearing from a normal v6 engine, it will push straight into the end of the crank with a bit of grease

I got a 2WD RWD MT75 out of a Granada Scorpio diesel. Sold it to somebody who wanted it for a Caterham as they have desirable ratios (racing ?)

V6 type 9 is simplest (ratios on the diesel will be terrible) and yes, the 2.8 6b/GTC uses the type z overdrive box - rarer than a RWD mt75!
