Hi my friend has a mk1 mr2 which blew the headgasket. The engine has been stripped down and rebuilt with new gaskets, plugs, cambelt etc, also had the head skimmed. Now its back in the car it will not start. It turns over and has spark/fuel but no signs of life.
Any help appreciated
Thanks Dan

When you say it has fuel ,are the plugs wet ?? Is there pressure up at the fuel rail ?? ..... Are all the leads on in the correct place etc etc give us some more info as may help to give us something to suggest
I assume its been timed up correctly and has compression too ?
Try some neat fuel down the intake itself but not much (small capful )
also go over all the wiring earths ,connector blocks ,battery terminals And check all the plugs for crank sensor cam sensor etc etc Also does the fuel pump prime and go off with ignition on ?

Does it have a cam sensor on those engines as usually tells the ecu when to trigger injectors

Could be the earth strap to the engine. That's always a good one.
But non-start checking procedure is always the same. Just go through it slowly and properly check everything.

Had a jump lead from engine to battery as another earth too. Fuel rail has pressure. Was going to try put a cap full of fuel in the throttle body today but now the car is dead. No electrics at all. 12.5v at the battery. All fuses in the engine bay are fine

Ah, so you have something wrong with your battery / alternator wiring then.

Wiring problem would start with alty leads and all lives from batt and earths too ,seems a little strange tho as thought an open short or something similar would have drained the battery totally
