I'm sure you've all seen the reports about the Saharan sand that's been blowing in the wind, and I bet a lot of you have had it settle on your car! So what's the best way to get rid of it? There's meant to be heavy rain on Sunday, would it be best to wait for that and hope it washes it all off? I'm loath to wash it with water and a sponge, because I'm sure that risks scratching the paintwork, so is a jet wash better to try and blast it off? I bet the valeters are rubbing their hands with glee

Personally I use sticky tape to carefully lift all the sand off before washing as normal.

I'm going to go around collecting it off all the cars in the area as some kind of self imposed community service/support.
I'm then going to use it to build a mini Sahara, with *genuine* sand in my back garden. Then charge everyone to come and have holidays there. Camel rides, a bit of dune bashing with Project X. Like an authentic holiday out in the desert but without the long haul flights and dehydration.
This time next year Rodney....

also usefull to avoid rusty stains after weld & grind sessions Though I found out today that most uf the dust is - pollen. 'Cause it's that time of spring again. And pollen - I just wipe off with a micro fibre cloth. Which is easy, after 3-4 coats of carnauba wax

Collect it all and donate it to people on the south coast, as I'm sure they would love to have a beach that's not made of pebbles.

All my previous cars have a) been dog rough, and barely worth washing at all and b) never got as filthy as this, so it's never been an issue before. But if a normal wash isn't going to cause too much damage, then I'll go with that.

Drop it off at the local car wash, give the keys to any one of three very pleasant Eastern European chappies, go and have breakfast, come back, give them £20, go home.
Job done.

Obviously that's on the wife's car, not mine. That gets cleaned when it rains. Expensive or not, it's popular. When I dropped it off at 8.30 this morning there was already half a dozen motors lined up, when I picked it up there was a queue out of the car park.

Ah full works then, so not bad. One local garage does the same but they want £50

Do most of these places actually do a decent job? There's loads around here but always been wary what the quality would be like, based on what they charge.
