That's a serious wheel regime! The fronts are as clean as you can see in the picture, would you still go through all those steps (I don't have any wheel products beyond some Muc Off cleaner)? How long does that Mint stuff last for? I've seen some good reviews of FK1000P but I don't want to damage the finish. Cheers Duncan

Mint Rims usually lasts 2-3 months on a daily driven car but would go for longer on a weekend/show car. It's not a hard product to use so it can be topped up fairly easily. The FK wax does get great reports but I've never used it to give you first hand experience. It wouldn't damage the polished surface though as it's only a synthetic wax.
I always go down the full decontamination route with clients cars to get the best durability from the product. You could just give them a very good clean and apply the wheel wax but you won't get the same bond which will (marginally) reduce durability.

I will see what they look like after a wash. I'll probably clay and polish the rims with autosol. How do you clay/polish the spokes in BBS style wheels like mine? Just put more time and effort in, or are there magic tools/techniques that can help? Cheers Duncan

The only way is to put the time in to be honest. On a wheels off detail I'll put around an hour per wheel into a set like your's. I have to live with a similar design on my daily too. Lots of spokes and fiddly gaps but the better the prep, the better the results

They look fantastic. Worth the effort when you can make them that nice. I've unpacked the other 3 wheels from their box today. 2 have black dirt inside the back, 2 have parcel tape remnants on the bit where the tyre sits, but all have nice clean faces. Hopefully it won't take 4 hours to get them really clean, I shall give them a go on the weekend. Thanks for all your advice. Cheers Duncan

I bought the Carbon Collective polish and wheel protective coating because it says it's safe on bare alloy. Only done 1 wheel so far, but it looks really good.
Tyre size dilemma. I have these nice 16 inch 7J wheels pictured above. Moving from 185 70 R15 I can go to 205 55 R16 and keep the same sort of rolling radius (this size is also recommended by Porsche). But I've got coilovers to fit and I was thinking of going a bit lower - I understand that how low I can go will be determined by the tyre depth? The car has to be usable and able to get over speedbumps (otherwise it'll never get out of my street!), so I'm not looking to win any hard slam awards! What size would you suggest? 205 50 R16 would seem like a small drop would be in order. How can I work out what tyre size would suit what drop? and how that would look/drive? Cheers Duncan

This car has now gone to JGC Porsche to get the wheels and FMIC and coilovers fitted (and a few other smaller jobs - hopefully the clutch is fine and doesn't need replacing or this will be very expensive!). I love driving this thing though - the boooooost is addictive.

I'll post some pics of my intercooler conversion for you to see when I go n see my car again next . That would be really cool, thanks. What car did the intercooler come from? Mine is from a 944 Turbo - it will require a couple of holes cutting, but hopefully won't require major surgery. Cheers Duncan

It's at the garage getting the bits fitted. A couple of sneak preview pictures below - more to come when it's all finished. It definitely needs a new clutch - apparently it slips like mad now it's got the FMIC (which is promising in itself!). A couple of other bits and pieces and a power run on the dyno, and then I'll get it back. I can't wait. IntercoolerPipework by duncancmartin, on Flickr 924Front by duncancmartin, on Flickr

I collected it today I've got to say a big thank you to James at jgcporsche.co.uk/ for doing a really good job installing all the random bits I brought him and making it look so good. I couldn't have done it myself. The ride is hard at low speed, but it's not bad as the speed picks up, and the counter to that is that it has very little body roll and holds its poise on corners beautifully. It's a bit slippy this morning, so I couldn't test the grip, but there is very little body roll. Boost kicks in nicely around 3000 rpm, and while I didn't see anything over 0.4 bar on the gauge, it was still fun and quick, and it made a really nice noise. When we've sorted out the boost (standard is 0.7 bar - the wastegate may not be sealing properly) it's going to really shift. And I love the way it looks - a little lower and more purposeful, and the wheels really suit it (I'll take some more pictures when it's not sleeting outside!). And it's seriously good having a working heater and fan! Last week I installed a new stereo - headunit, tweeters, 6x4s and a sub. It took ages, but I got it all working in the end. While I was pulling the carpets up, I also discovered that the carpet ought to be black! 20150412_162320 by duncancmartin, on Flickr So last night and again today I sprayed the interior carpets black. I think it looks pretty good: 20150418_163829 by duncancmartin, on Flickr 20150418_163958 by duncancmartin, on Flickr I then decided I would clean it (inspired by my new portable "pressure" washer). So I rinsed it, washed it, rinsed it, dried it, sealed it (Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection), and waxed it (cheapass carnuba). And I polished the rims. This is what it looks like now: 20150418_163657 by duncancmartin, on Flickr 20150418_163706 by duncancmartin, on Flickr 20150418_163745 by duncancmartin, on Flickr And then I tucked it up under it's cover so that it was safe from the pigeons! Cheers Duncan PS Tomorrow I shall put the seats back in and drive it.

I put the seats in today but didn't get any chance to drive it. I did however fit my new gearlever gaiter. The old one was knackered - see the top of the lever before (including the pre-dye carpet): 20150409_173404 by duncancmartin, on Flickr After: 20150419_181808 by duncancmartin, on Flickr 20150419_181822 by duncancmartin, on Flickr I'm kinda pleased with that. The last bit of my mini-makeover of the interior is the steering wheel. I'm gonna fit a 3 spoke Momo style wheel and get my lovely 4 spoke recovered. I was thinking black leather or black leather/alcantara mix with silver stitching. Anyone got a preference either way? Cheers Duncan

Very smart Duncan! Why not keep the Momo in there? Thanks mate. I love the 4 spoke - I think it looks so cool and Porschey. I've got a decent leather Momo style 3 spoke, and a worn alcantara one. So, I'm going to fit the leather 3 spoke, get the 4 spoke recovered (and if it's not too pricey the alcantara one as well) and it will be a shootout between all 3 of them when finished. Cheers Duncan
