Hello, A good friend of mine has purchased a 1957 Simca Vedette Versailles, which has a 2.4 (yes two point four) V8. He is now looking for more information, does anyone know where I could find more info? Manuals, parts, etc? Car is currently in France, has supposedly only done 5500kms, but hasn't been run since 1973, so might have the odd teething issue. Pictures of the actual car Not the actual car, but some may be inspired:

Great looking cars! My dad used to have one, but that was before I was born sadly. Didn't know these were V8, which makes then even cooler!

The engine even has a nice name, Aquillon. No idea what set up this V8 is though!

The Aquilon in Brazil began with the launch of the domestic Simca Chambord (Vedette) in March 1959; most of its components were imported from France. The little 2,351-cc (143-cubic-inch) V8 engine had compression ratio of 7.60:1 and produced 84 hp, giving the Chambord a 135-km/h (84-mph) top speed, about right for average-sized imported cars of the time.

Flat head V8! Like a mini Ford flathead. Most intriguing.

It is a flathead Ford, Simca purchased Ford France, got the V8 and a gearbox plant. The gearboxes went into many French large cars of the era. Simca

There are 4-cylinder versions, one called the Ariane I believe, and they have the Rush or Flash engines from the Aronde (they must be dead slow).
It's a car I really like, especially the estate versions, they look good and seem to be quite simple.
Good luck with it!

Those little V8s found their way into some british light trucks too, Looking at the roof it has a very similar C post and roofline to a Ml2 Zephyr, I wonder if there is a bit of linage

Hadn't thought about it before but I assume it's the smaller Ford V8-60 lump. Plenty of tuning stuff was made for them as I think they were popular in midget racing.

Engine is also in Simca trucks, esp. the military version. I expect if the French are like the British armed forces, there's probably a warehouse stuffed with brand new crate engines somewhere, even though they now longer use the trucks!
