Ive been eyeing up a couple of P reg 5 door astra 1400s in the local salvage yard... One has a dinted wing and broken headlight, the others has had its steering wheel snapped off (!?) Both easy repair circa 60k miles and £250 each After that though id have to MOT it, tax it and probably apply for a log book so thats creeping towards the £500 mark without factoring in any unexpected expense come the MOT. Ive got the parts to repair them on my dead 1.7 diesel astra so fixing one would be "free" .......................... Ihave justseena pretty tidy 1.4 Astra Estate on a K plate near me. Its up for £495 but tax is up at the end of the month so I betyou could come down a big chunk. Its red, 5 Months MOT and very tidy. Interior looks minty fresh from outside. I will get the number if you are interested.

I was hoping to get something a bit newer than K reg, around N/P reg. Lightly damaged salvage looks very good at the moment. W reg felicia estate 1.3, very light rear damage 50k £300........
Thanks for the offer of the fezza but I'm hoping to steer clear of fords.

Thanks for the offer of the fezza but I'm hoping to steer clear of fords. do it! if possible, get a diesel, although a bit more in demand, you're looking at 60+mpg and still group 5. we had one that was written off by a corsa demolishing the rear end, it caved it right in and the boot wouldnt open, towbar saved major structural damage but we used it for another 3 weeks until it was economically written off. the grand we got and spent on a diesel mk3 astra estate was perhaps one of the biggest letdowns we've had... (both the payout and the astra ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) ) W reg should be '99 or later too? which means chrome grille which looks better!

more cos it looked like wibblepoo and I just had a new more representative job i'd had to lose it..

Its a 2000, and got a chrome grille. The description on the website has changed from light rear to light nearside, looks like the psr door has been blitzed, all bolt on though. ![](http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f121/lankytim/skud.jpg) Looks like a mini octavia!

If you don't get the Skoda than I'd plump for a Rover 216 or 218, or a Peugeot 306.
Can you get the 'bubble' shape 200s (the one that became the 25) for less than £500 now?
Mondeo mk2s are also seriously cheap and very capable cars, much better than a equivalent age Escort.

I like it too......... I may take a look today when I get out of bed after work. (working funny hours!) Theres still 2 months of life left in the Rover however.... This place has loads of damaged repairables though so getting another in a couple of months shouldnt be too much of a problem. Might be too good to miss out on though ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)
