Just curious really, I’ve been watching some videos online of classic enthusiast who are wearing them and can never make up my mind about them. I got in the car this morning and the wheel was so cold, uncomfortable at first but soon got warmer in there. So what are the benefits, apart from a little warmth in cold weather, can driving gloves provide?

Grip on the wheel is the only thing I guess. But you loose a little feeling with it too. For a daily drive to work this wouldn't bother any of this though, only when at a trackday or race maybe.

hygiene if you are a bit OCD. Steering wheels tend to be rather grubby things. My neighbours MGF has sat all winter and the amount of mould forming on the steering wheel and seatbelts was pretty shocking!

Not 'proper' driving gloves, (I'm far too young for that lark) but on a few mornings last month I did wear my murder gloves, mostly because I had the roof down and it was 4º outside.

Gloves make a lot more sense with older hard plastic or wood steering wheels which transfer their cold (or heat if parked in the sun) much more dramatically , & may get slippery in uncomfortably hot weather. Not to mention 'race' style suede that may get rather grubby quickly.

With driving gloves, any man can pretend he's Ryan Gosling Babygoose.

Those are very similar to the gloves that I wear.
I picture myself more as a driver out of The Sweeney though (see the episode 'Stoppo Driver')...!!!

occasionally in the mx5 if its cold I use racing gloves, they are really slimline ones and the material on the hand part in your grip its some sort of suede, but its so fine you have full sensitivity through it on anything you touch, that good in fact that you can wear them and still operate the track pad on a laptop

rapidyellow could you let me know make / model if gloves please? I have reynauds(sp?) syndrome and suffer from freezing fingers even in the summer and the gloves you describe sound like what I need. Cheers

I don't have some fancy pair of gloves but no power steering + freezing cold wheel is enough for me to put some gloves on whilst driving in the winter. At least until the heating has warmed up.

No problem, thanks. I've checked that site and the only ones they sell now are more like gauntlets. :/
