Hi guys, I recently fitted a recon head on my 1990 1.4 CVH escort van, ever since then it's had a nasty misfire and I've done everything I can think of, fitted new plugs, leads, rotor arm (in December), coil, electronic ignition module, new dizzy and cap, made sure the vac pipe wasn't blocked, checked for air leaks, cleaned the engine earth strap, checked that the leads are in the right order, checked that the cam timing is correct, all to no avail. Any thoughts or observations would be very greatly appreciated.

try taking each lead off in turn and see if anything alters. THe one that doesn't alter anything is the cylinder at fault. I had a faulty valve once which had a burr on the top. Had to file it off and the car was good as gold again

Without trying to be the bearer of bad news I would try and get a compression tester and check the compression. Prior to that, I would isolate the cylinder which is misfiring by pulling off each HT lead one at a time as MattXR3i has said. If I am a betting man I reckon it is either a camshaft issue (they are no stranger to cam wear if oil changes have been negleced (how often do you change the oil and how often was it changed prior to that and with what oil?)) or a burned out valve (putting a teaspoon of oil in the affected cylinder after doing a compression test should isolate this. Of course it could simply be a faulty spark plug .

Compression test is a very good idea.
