Hi guys, after a bit of advice. My cousin has offered me her h reg polo saloon. It's a 1.1, tidy interior with almost fsh 115k miles. Body wise it's very good with no rust or rot. However, the head gaskets gone. I'm tempted to buy it off her, do the head gasket and sell it on with a new mot, but not sure if it would be worth it. Seen lots of breadvan Polos for sale but not any saloons, any ideas what one would be worth/ would it be worth doing? Thanks

If it's tidy and doesn't need a load of other stuff, do it.
It's not a hard or expensive job, even if the head does need skimming and/or welding.
If you don't do it, i'll almost definitely buy it instead!

Is it a MK2 or MK2F ? (facelift, often refered to as a MK3), Loons are harder to find than Breadvans or Coupe's but in my experience not worth more in money, if it's a MK2F then it's worth saving as they are fairly scarce, only made for two years as it wasn't a big seller.
I'd say the car you are describing is worth £250 max
I had a very tidy MK2F Loon a few years ago, lowered, GT engine, nice 7x13 alloys, long tax and mot, sold for £900.

Thanks guys. It could be a mk2f. I'm not that up on there different numbers but it's got the bigger bumpers than the earlier style Polos. Mark is 250 what you think I should offer her as is or 250 when done (trying to work out £ of doing it) Had a quick google and it's this type (not a pic of actual car) Thanks

It's a MK2F then, produced from 90-92 (though the Breadvan and Coupe was 90-94), as said well worth saving as they are pretty scarce, especially if it's just needing a headgasket, i'd say £250 max is what you should offer, maybe a bit less. Here's my old one. I paid £250 for that car, was clean but totaly standard and with a rough running engine, never solved the rough running problem so swapped the whole motor for a good GT unit, lowered it 60/40 on springs and fitted the Borbet wheels with good Conti tyres, sold it for £900 with nearly a years MOT.
