I'm not going to make any excuses - I am a sucker for touring cars. You can subject me to as much reasoning as to why single seaters, F1, F5000, sports sedans, TransAm etc etc is better but I always end up coming back to touring cars as my ultimate favourite form of motorsport. Maybe it's because I grew up watching Group A and Supertourers, the last of the truly international touring car categorys? Or perhaps as a youngster that ability to relate and harbour totally realistic dreams of one day having one of my own... either way, nowadays I absolute froth at the chance to get close to or see these retro tintops in action, so when Conrad Timms, the owner of this utterly immaculate E30 DTM spec car offered me the chance to snap a few shots I found myself struggling to maintain a dignified enough composure to graciously accept.
Below are the results of a short shoot in a very restricted space - this was the foyer of a respected body shop on Auckland's North Shore. All shot with natural light.
The car? Well this particular car is a 1992 spec E30 M3, built to compete in that year's DTM championship by the Bigazzi team and piloted by perennial touring car ace, Emanuele Pirro. The 92 season wasn't the most successful, with the E30's outclassed by the might of the AMG Mercedes racers and the factory Audi V8's. The best this car managed was (as best as I can tell) a 3rd placing in that season, but I bet that 360 odd hp S14 engine sounded glorious doing so.
So please enjoy the below, I sure relished the chance to inspect this car in detail and really get amongst the finer points!

Thanks for looking! I have the opportunity to do similar with some other historic race cars, any interest?
