Someone was selling a mk1 escort rs2000 on ebay a few days ago .Thats a new pair of wings , 6 dial dash , lights and a few more bits and bobs layed out on his patio . Plenty of bids , i think it was nearly 2 grand before i got it taken off . There was also a type 49 shell which appeared as well with no logbook , makes you think it was put on there so someone could pick up the whole kit in one .
I tried reporting the yellow one with the report function but they never do anything .YThe only way is to use the contact function and select some other issue which lets you get on to the live chat function and then bother someone about it .
Really cant stand this , its the ' I'm alright jack ' attitude i.e, I'm going to make a grand or two and as far as I'm concerned its a person who collect old log books or some nonsense .

Also going on the stolen threads , i think in the last year or so a red mexico was stolen form somewhere in the south and a rs2000 was pinched from scotland somewhere ? And this stuff is punted about ? Absolutely no f ing morals at all .

How the hell does eBay let them away with it? Looking at the advert again it even has a copy of a fresh V5 so it's clear that's what he's doing.

Basically the people who are in charge of dealing with reported items are not savvy enough or do not care about the items . They will look at that and think thats genuine through lack of knowledge. Also from being passed back and forth by people from there i really don't think they give a monkeys when it comes to complaints . I thnk its a bit like a call centre , you have to asnwer so many calls as a target , wether you resolve the issue or not .
And the fact they don't give a monkeys if they are making money and its not a gun or drugs someones selling . Ive had the same buying books from there , never recieving items and they just don't give toss .

On the other hand, let's say 20 years ago you dumped a car at the back of your field because it had failed its MOT and you always meant to get round to fixing it, but never did. This was back in the day before SORN existed so it just sat there, the logbook in a cupboard somewhere.

Fast forward 20 years, and you discover that due to a stupid fanbase, your rotten shell is now worth £5k upwards. Wouldn't you put it on the bay?

Consider that Mexico on For The Love Of Cars. They bought a rotbox for £8k and pretty much rebuilt the whole damn thing. It would hardly have made a difference to the amount of work needed if they'd started from scratch and riveted a new car onto the old VIN plate.

Obviously buying logbooks and IDs, nicking a base model and ringing it to make it look like some desirable edition is wrong, indeed criminal, but from looking at that ad I don't think you can say that the seller or indeed the buyer is definitely up to no good. It's only because of the perceived value that this sort of thing happens - it's like buying houses. I can't honestly say that I wouldn't do the same if I had a rotten car that I found some nutter was willing to give me x thousand quid for,

This argument has done the rounds before - basically changing any vehicles identity is illegal .So any use of that v5 is going to be illegal no matter if the new car is stolen or , say a ex rally car being put on the road again . Thats exactely the attitude i was on about - not giving a F as long as your getting a few grand - scumbag .
There is no way that anything legimate canhappen from selling that , ringing a car or otherwise .

Utter rubbish, that listing is for a logbook and VIN for ringing purposes, and there is no way you can dress it any other way.

The shell lost its ID the minute it rusted to pieces, the VRM no longer exists and the logbook should be returned to the DVLA. It's common knowledge, and even this seller knows it, since he's willing to post the ID bits and bin the rusty parts 'on your behalf'.

There's a group that actively search out and report such posts on eBay, and if you see the underhand, smug ways that some people try and flout the Law and advertise ringing kits, you wouldn't be so flippant in your reply.

That would be nice, but there are a hell of a lot of grey areas in between totally legit and ringed. What if you have a stupidly rare Mk1 Escort that gets rear ended? Is it illegal to chop the boot out of another one? I don't want to get into a bun fight, but I just don't think it's all that black and white. After all, someone could restore that 1300, there is salvageable metal in there. Obviously to consider doing so would be ridiculous, but who adjudicates on when a car isn't the original car any more? Trigger's broom etc...

Didn't someone here have a series 2 Landy which I think was actually a series 2 rear window panel, being driven around by a series 3?

I'm just saying we should think clearly about this, otherwise people might start thinking that everyone selling a rusty car on ebay is a crook. I'm more than happy to learn something myself here.

If the ad stated specifically that the seller would post the V5 and the VIN plate and bin the rest for you, I would say that warrants the ad being taken down, but I can't see that it does.

There is no grey are , its black and white .Replacing a boot rear end of a car is not the same , it would keep the majority of the car. I wouldnt be surprised if that picture was not even his and wa just one he found - its pretty obvious theres nothing salvagable .
Anyway ive said my piece - I'm tempted to not reply as you either don't know what your on about or are just trolling for a response .

Only variation of that reg that comes back on DVLA nearly right is:

NOD 729G - comes back as a 1.3 - Blue

Not sure if that's right though as it's stated as last on road 2010.

So chances are the pics are library pics apart from the cleverly hidden reg number pics (with what looks like an old new V5)
