Car with around 210ftlb of torque Propshaft advise!

I'm having difficulty finding a propshaft to fit the MGB V6 conversion. and a one off is looking to be silly money.
as so I'm looking for a propshaft around

1m long
good to take around 210ftlb off torque
with flanges on both ends so its cheap enough to make an adapter.

does anyone know off anything?

Cosworth 4wd prop ??
Only downside is it has one male splines end ,but you could get 2x props and swap that end for another flanged end to make it easier ??

210lbft doesn't really tell you what the prop will need to take without some gear ratio's too..

Oh and they take well in excess of 500tourques too

Silly money? You should be able to get a custom one made to suit your job for under £200. I wouldn't consider that excessive when you consider the cost of adapting/reconditioning a scrapyard special

I was thinking that about the rx8 prop but the mgb rear axle is live so il need some way off allowing the prop to adjust its length when the axle moves if you get were I'm comign from

hmm anyone recomend a propshaft specialist? cheapest iv got so far was £230+vat which was for a new prop and anadaptor making. which thought was a bit pricey to be fair. i figured i could buy my own prop and make adaptors for sub £100

They do all our boat shafts, which are at least double the torque you're looking at and up to 9 feet in length

Just make sure you ask for a sliding joint at one end

Hmm, I'm sturggling finding somewere that will machine a splined adapter.
anybody know anywere?
how do they even machine a spline?

Do you have the original propshaft for the gearbox?

Ford type 9?
They can supply a shaft with the spine already fitted.

I see you have two options, get Dave Mac (as MrSpeedy has suggested) or some other prop manufacturer to make a new prop to your specs, or have one made from two old ones. The custom one off should fit straight off and be ready balanced with no messing about (well worth the money for something that spins fast), but making one from two needs to be precision joined assuming they are compatible then needs balancing.

My honest opinion would be get one made as others have suggested.

I had Reco prop make me one for less than 150 a few years back. Id go that route again tbh, it's simple. Order - pay - fit - forget.

Another vote for Dunning and Fairbanks in Leeds. They made a custom prop for my v8 Magnum a few months ago. Can't remember the price but it was less than £200.

One of the guys that works there has an old Chevy Pickup that he has modified with a v8 etc...

Another recommendation for Dave Mac here. They do all ours for work and never had an issue. £200 odd + vat doesn't sound too unreasonable, at least you know it'll be bob on that way.

Try Bailey morris know that they do shafts for bike conversions fairly cheap. Mk2 escort single piece ones can be got for £100.

Reco Prop in Luton did my type 9 in my Marina. I gave them the Marina prop which needed shortening slightly and a sliding spline adding to the end that pokes into the output shaft of the gearbox.

Got it back with complete new front half and all balanced up.

Personally I would go along to a local company and discuss your design needs face to face. They will take more interest and will be much more likely to give you a good price.
