Those connectors are the same on just about every fuel injector or coolant temp sender or throttle switch or whatever that VW made through the 80's. So you can just steal one off a bus, van, rabbit, jetta, bug, passat, whatever in a junk yard, or ask for one at a parts store/dealer. It is called a Bosch F1 connector. www.lovemybus.com/forum/index.php?topic=4572.0

In theory you should just be able to chuck the injector in without wiring and have the car fire up. The problems occur when the injector leaks. The Cold Start injector does help mind you when the engine is quite cold.

Interesting...will try that then ....got the the connector for £3.00, which was a lot cheaper than I thought. Will try running it with the injector disconnected out of interest

Usually people only remove them because they don't know how to set the car up correctly in the beginning ,as with most old cars they need disconnecting first whilst getting all the base settings ,co ,Idle, mixture etc etc then it has to be plugged in and will relearn itself so to say

I was under the impression that the cold start injector only worked during the car being started from cold for around 5 seconds. Furthermore I thought it was not used after that. However, it does seem that some can leak and wiring shorts/issues can occur when the faults tend to set in.

The above is correct but still needs setting up first with it unplugged same as some idle control valves
Also if it still won't work then its probably the thermo switch that's knackered as this is what gives the ecu the info when the cold start should work !
