I've a 1987 Opel Kadett (Mk2 Astra) and I'm fairly certain the heater matrix is at fault what with wet carpets and lowering coolant levels.
However, I'm having a problems actually removing it! I've pulled the centre console etc and can now see the matix but I cant see where it attaches other than a couple of screws holding a clip at the top which when removed didnt loosen anything.
Is it attached from inside the engine bay behind the sound proofing? If not where please?
Many thanks in advance...

Sometimes they have a securing bolt from the bulkhead side Usually found inbetween where the two Water pipes enter the matrix from the bulkhead area !!! Sometimes they are just snug fit Why not just bypass it by joining both the pipes to Each other for a temporary solution to see if that is your problem with a leak Only downside would be no hot air

Can't remember if it was astra or not but am sure the lower part of the heater matrix plastic housing has to be removed in order for you to get it out Imagine a couple of screws towards back or clips should see the lower half of plastic unit come off

Hi. Thanks for taking the time to reply. I crawled up under there and it seems for further plastic to be removed I have to go through the bulkhead side as it seems the screws are facing into the car (as below) I'll bet I have to remove the soundproofing in the bay in that case as any fixings arent showing when I have a look down there just above the gearbox selector rods.
