As I got in the Granada earlier, a guy who was in the car parked behind asked me if I wanted to sell it. After I had politely refused, he was telling me how his Dad had had one, lovely car, etc etc. Then he asked if it'd been resprayed, which seemed odd, and then mentioned to make sure I always put my Disklok on, because 'people who know more than me know what it's worth'. At first, I didn't really think anything of it, but then I wondered if he could be sizing it up? It was outside my house, so he knows where I live and where it will normally be. It's alarmed and immobilsed, and the Disklok *is* always on. It's also generally parked between two other vehicles, so would be difficult (but not impossible) to tow. So, should I be concerned, or am I just paranoid?

Does sound a bit odd , if he is saying other people know its worth something , that means he knows as well .Sounds like he probably has some dubious friends .It wouldnt hurt to be a bit more vigilant , and perhaps try to park it in a way which will make it more difficult to get at .

I'd be a bit wary dude. Thing is you're gonna be up at night listening out for anything now. Also why would he be so interested in yours since they're not exactly rare, ya know?

Paranoia is not a bad thing. Despite having other security devices I would be pulling a ht lead of it. Parking other cars in front of it etc. Had a similar thing with a land rover and even had an MOT inspector copy my keys although I had trouble convincing the police of this. It's a sad part of our interest to have scum steal our property but one we can't ignore.

I'd just be aware, but at the same time, don't get too paranoid, there are genuinely nice people in the world, who are interested.

I think your being paranoid just maintain your security and keep an eye out for the same bloke, If I was going to pinch a car the last thing I would do is strike up conversation with the owner ( unless I was just going to take it off him there and then )
If you see him again park your car on his head.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Only joking...........

I had a similar experience once, I was doing something in the garage and as I turned around there was a chap half way up the drive, came up to me and asked if I knew of any garages for rent. He had to open up the big gate at the bottom and walk up a private drive to get to me just to ask that question. Wouldn't of been so bad if there wasn't anything in the garage but that is where my Lancia lives so I was very much on edge for the next few days.
Needless to say nothing happened but these strange encounters do put one on edge but sometimes they are just genuine but unfortunately in this day of age that we live in you really can't trust no one on face value which is a shame I think. As said try to park it in a very difficult way and maybe be a bit more aware over the next few days.
lets all hope it was nothing and just one of those strange things that happens.

I have a good friend that the same happened to mate with a car of his audi s3 Quattro He felt same as you so shrewdly decided to go and buy one of those 2-way baby moniters , luckily for him his car was close enough down side of house Sure enough 4 nights later he was awoken by the baby moniter to find 2 lads inside his car Don't think they will ever try to take one of his cars again put it that way Ingenious idea tho I thought afterwards

Thanks for the feedback, chaps. It is almost certainly nothing to worry about, but it reminded me of an incident when I was selling my Fiesta, when I got the handbook out of the glovebox and the prospective buyer said 'Never leave your radio faceplate in there, it's the first place they look'. Lo and behold, next time I went to get it, it had gone and the only time anyone had the chance to was during the time that guy viewed the car. Just a case of once bitten, I guess.

I always get a bit on edge when a complete stranger wanders into my workshops and starts chatting about the cars especially if they have no dealing with anyone else on site as the estate isn't near any main roads.
A small tip when parking your car in a drive or garage, park front end in and put the steering of full lock especially if you use a crooklock type device this won't stop a determined thief but it will make it difficult to pull the car backwards onto a truck.

Had a few blokes come and talk to me about the Capri when it's been on the drive, i'm always sure to jot down who they are and any details (like if they were in a car or whatever) I can. It's a shame, but it's better to be safe than sorry! I'm always sure to drop into conversation that it's alarmed, immobilised and tracked though haha.

i always park my car on full lock outside my house with a disclock on and left in gear,i also have a Clifford alarm with blue flashing lights on dash, reason for full lock is so they cant get it on a truck from front and if they lift from rear it will just go round in circles lol
