Hi Guys, I have a 1975 vauxhall magnum coupe an am thinking about fitting a 5 speed box of some description. I've looked at droopsnoot zf boxs when they pop up but they tend to go for silly money! the last one in excess of £1600! has anyone converted any other 5spd box to fit a 2300? cheers Mac

5 speed in a Magnum, options are a ford type 9 gearbox with an adapter plate (if you can find/make one) a really hugely expensive ZF (price is so high because the Sunbeam boys like busting them) a notoriously weak overdrive box, which still leaves you with the less-than-fabulous synchros in the old vaux box.. or The toyota w58 gearbox as fitted to - 1982–1985 Toyota Celica (US) 1982–1986 Toyota MK 2 Celica Supra 1986–1992 Toyota MK 3 non-turbo Supra 1993–1998 Toyota MK 4 non-turbo Supra 1986 Toyota Cressida 1986 Toyota Soarer 1982–1992 Lotus Excel 1992–1997 Lexus SC300 1998–2005 Lexus IS300 5 speed will fit on the vauxhall slant four engine, using the Lotus Excel bellhousing - its got a Hydraulic clutch which will mean some mods to convert from the cable I'ts well known as a strong transmission capable of withstanding a LOT more torques than the old Vauxhall lump is going to put through it, its availiable with several different tail extensions for adjusting the gear lever position, I'ts modern feeling with a smooth change, and you can find em at the scrappy if you're lucky - lotus excel bellhousings can be bought at www.lotusbits.com/I've not yet done the conversion myself but i have the 'box and bellhousing waiting in my parts pile If you ask over on the "droop snoot group" they should be able to help, people have done this conversion and there was a write up in their club newsletter about a year or so ago.. -Matty-
