Evening All,
We have a '63 Alpine with an immobilizer/kill switch fitted which simply earths the ignition to the coil lead. This has worked fine for the three years we've had the car (and for the 30+ years dad has had a similar arrangement on his). However, as of Sunday it is now causing a massive short circuit. Everything is normal provided the kill switch earth lead is removed, but when it earths as it should do a huge short circuit is created, large enough to send the ammeter off the scale and to burn out the switch in around 45 seconds.
We are completely perplexed as to why this has suddenly occurred - the only modification made recently is led rear light bulbs and an electronic flasher, although I'm not sure how they can be affecting it. I've tried a different switch to no avail.
All help gratefully received and a picture of some Alpines for your trouble
Many thanks
