I'll be fitting Rose joints to my steering rack, the track rod ends give too much bump steer because the rack has been lowered.
How much of the thread on the tie rod end needs to be in the female end of the rose joint to be safe? 50% perhaps?
Having trouble with the google answers, mostly about a different kind of joint!
Thanks
Andy

unfortunately, if you're looking to reduce bump-steer, you're looking in the wrong place at the rod-ends. You need to lower the entire pivot section at the hub, the same amount that the rack has been lowered - so unless you're fitting them under the hub, when they originally were on top (or a similar amount of height change) then you won't achieve anything I'm afraid.
And as for the amount of thread, it depends on the type of joint used, and the quality of the joint - but I'd not be happy with anything less than 1.5 times the diameter of the thread (ie: if it's an m10 thread, I'd want a minimum of 15mm engagement).

Thanks for the formula, the joints have a 1/2 inch thread, so each end (tie rod and joint) will need 1 & 1/2 inch of engagement?
The Rose joint will indeed fit to the bottom of the steering arms and that will return the rack tie rods to their proper position.

excellent if they're 1/2" diameter, then 0.75" would be minimum, with 2" being a good amount. Anything over that, is just making your life awkward to fit, lol Just make sure you use decent strength bolts, and not whatever's lying around
