I would like to show you my car which I got from my grandad. It's fast, it's comfortable, it's reliable, it's... a damn Hyundai Pony! It's 1.5 carb (G4DJ / 4G15), 72 hp, 80k miles on the clock. Last year I had to replace the front right fender because it was getting a bit rusty (a police car hit it back in the days). Because of the rust I also had to cut out parts of rear fenders and I welded OEM Hyundai (they still had all the sticker and badges) replacements I imported from Russia. I hope it's enough retro to be a part of Retro Rides board :-). Cheers! Some pics:

Now I'm looking for some nice wheels and due to my limited budget I have only two options. One is a classic Fondmetal Turbo S and the second one is some unnamed lets-say-its-a-deep-dish wheels coming from Nissan. Any oppinion?

Yours looks like a really nice example, great to see you looking after it! You planning to modify it or keep it standard and clean?
They are a rare sight on UK roads now, think most of ours got scrapped about 10 years ago lol.

They are a rare sight on UK roads now, think most of ours got scrapped about 10 years ago lol. I'm thinking about some mods but I'm not too much into some funky hellaflush look. Firstly wheels, then some lowering (there are no coilovers for Pony so I will have to create something, maybe I will use VW Polo or Vauxhall Astra coilover set and modify them to fit Hyundai). I'd love to get some more power from that oldie carburetor engine so maybe I will try to fit some DCOE 40 Webers if it will be possible. Everything is about the money. I still need to get some rare OEM parts like wind deflectors (they weren't offered in Polish Hyundai dealerships), little rear wing from GS version and maybe an armrest (I've seen it in the pics of USDM Ponys but it seems to be a some kind of an US-exclusive). Everything depends on the money haha. I've heard that most of the Ponys in Western Europe were scrapped long time ago and I really don't know why - I drive it daily from 3 years and never had any major problems with it. OEM parts are cheap as chips and the ones made by other manufacturers are even cheaper (I've paid 2 pounds for OEM Hyundai oil filter last week).

Maybe during the winter I will remove the exhaust, fuel tank and whole suspension and refine the anti-corossion protection on the floor. Thankfully I work in a car parts store so I can buy all the stuff I need using employee's discount.

Sony XTC-U200 RDS beast in its place to be. I need to find the 'Mute' button (on the left; anyone got it?). Button on the right is getting repaired because its broken. I also need to find the frame... do you think that one from newer Sony CDX will fit? Damn, I love flea markets with all those people who don't know what are they selling. Middle-grade 1992 car audio system for 5 pounds? No problem! Now it's time to get some suitable CD changer. Some magician cut the original Hyundai cables and made them into ISO system leaving a ton of cables unusable. I think I will get it right and use the original Hyundai harness. Sorry for my English but sometimes I just don't know how to name some things ;-).

I had one of these about 8 or 9 years ago, with the 1.5 injection engine. It's just occurred to me that they have all disappeared from the roads in the UK. Mine got donated to police forensics training I think. Very sturdy mechanicals, they can withstand all sorts of abuse!

I imagine this is definitely 'Retro'. Rare as anything in the UK now and I bet they can take a barrel load of abuse. I like those four hole wheels more but it's your car

Pony is still alive but since July it has made maybe around 1k miles. I got myself a new daily driver, '05 Fiat Croma, so Pony spends most of the time in warm garage. I'm thinking about doing CAI to the carb but I dunno if cold air is a good thing in case of carburated engine. Some people say 'go for it', some say 'it's a bad idea'.
Sony head unit died after a month so at the moment I'm looking for a vintage Alpine.

in my experience (ignoring the icing in cold weather) fuel seems to homogenise better with warm air, engine seems to run better
