hi there long time reader first time poster lol
doing a conversion on the car and the gearbox i have fitted requires a hydraulic setup but the car has a cable set up, now i cant fit a hydraulic pedal box to this car
what i was going to do was modify a hydraulic handbrake lever to take a cable that would in turn operate the clutch cylinder just wondering if any of ye guys have any ideas or alternatives

Hi, I had this problem when I fitted a Rover V8 and 5 speed (Hydraulic)into a Cavalier Mk1 (cable). I used a clutch cable that had a long threaded part on the inner cable, I then drilled a hole in the clutch arm where the push rod goes and out through the back of the bellhousing. So I secured the inner threaded part to the bellhousing, and had the outer part of the cable bearing against the clutch arm. The inner can now not move back, so the outer moves forward and operates the arm. Hope this makes sense.

There are many hydraulic cylinders you can use, but as above, the application and slave being used would help.

thanks colin i would take you up on that idea only the gearbox I'm using dosent have a clutch fork its a slave cylinder and bearing all in one so it really does need to be operated hydraulically my car is a cav mk1 aswell lol

when i fitted the CA18DET engine into my Capri i had the same problem, i ended up using the whole pedal from the s13, bolts through the bulk head and has a little pot on the engine bay side, easy and cheap  |

What engine and box is it? Can you not fit the clutch master cylinder from the donor car?

its a mk1 cavalier running a 2.4 redtop currently on a manta box but changing to an omega box which has the slave cylinder inside the box , i cant actually mount a seperate clutch pedal as the prake pedal pivots off the clutch pedal , and i don't want to fit a bias pedal box to it either , i was hoping some one on here may have made up a device to to take in a clutch cable and push out fluid lol , ill see if i can make up something from an old hydraulic handbrake

When I fitted a RV8 to a Manta many years ago I modified the pedal box so that the clutch pedal operated a lever to the right of the brake pedal that connected to a master cylinder mounted to the bulkhead - basically extended the shaft the two pedals are fitted to, welded the clutch pedal to the shaft so instead of pivoting it turns the shaft (brake pedal can still just pivot) and welded the lever to the other end.

On my Scirocco I mounted a vertical master cylinder from a classic Mini in the scuttle tray area. The only modification the pedal box needed this way was an extra forward facing arm welding onto the clutch pedal, to push up vertically when the clutch was depressed.
