MOT mistake where do i stand

Just got my car back from the mot station, everything is fine apart from a tiny bit of welding on the inner sill.
Ive just take the car to my local welder, who cannot find any thing wrong with the sill ,however, the opposite side to the one the mot sheet says has failed, is the culprit ,and needs a little bit of welding.

So the mot states, N/S/R inner sill excessively corroded!!
When in fact its the, O/S/R that needs the work.
Can i take the car back to the station and have them pass the car if they only check the NSR sill.
Iam going to get the work done anyway ,just wondering if they will pass the car.

As far as I know they only check what it's failed on, so theoretically they should only be checking the NSR if that's what is stated on the failure sheet.

As you say, it's definitely worth getting the rot sorted properly, but if this mistake means you get a pass in the meantime, then you get to be mobile while having the work sorted (or waiting to have it sorted).

Just the answer i was looking for.
My welder can only fit me in next tuesday,so i would like the mot a bit sooner.
Its only a tiny bit of welding anyway.

To be honest I think if you took it back they'd realise straight away that they put the wrong side and just re-issue you a fail with the correct description on.

Even when they checked they'd know there's not a new weld on the sill mentioned.

May have a ride up and see what they say.
However will there not be two separate
fail sheets on the mot database?

Just been back to the mot station.The tester couldn't apologise enough and offed to do the small bit of welding at a cheap price.
So happy days.

They are indeed Lever and Sons Farnworth if anyone needs a good mot/service and repair garage.

Genuine mistake I imagine. With the sheer number of mot tests we process at work, our (independent) mot centre occasionally gets left and right wrong on little stuff like sidelight bulbs, ect. It's just human nature I suppose.

Mate if its the mot station you always use then just weld up the side it hasn't failed on lol and keep mr mot man happy for future mots

Trust me most mot testers are like elephants and likely fail your car next time if you take it back and make a mug of him

At the end of the day it still failed on welding regardless of the goon not knowing one side from other
Just weld it and keep it sweet

It happened to me a couple of times,
its human error, clicked the wrong icon etc.. when they was filling in the report
But they KNOW when you take it back which side it is!!

The car was getting the work done anyway,it was just a question over weather there mistake was binding.

This would be my impression too. I always make sure to avoid the big boys (Kwik Fit etc) and take mine to a local guy I have been going to for years. Then in a case like this the friendly local is usually more likely to pass you as long as you tell him that you've got it booked in to be fixed at a welder in a few days time.
