Hi Guys,
I have a 2000 plate Ford Escort 1.6 Zetec and it is not idling properly. I can hear the car sucking in air, it sounds as though its coming from either around the end of the induction pipe (not the air filter end) or somewhere below, behind the valve the induction pipe goes into. I have looked online and they list a rubber pipe leaking air but I can't seem to find a rubber pipe below the valve anywhere, there are just four plastic pipes into the cylinder.
Am I missing one and if so where is it located in the bay or if anyone has a picture of its location that would be great.
Thanks Guys
Tom

Will be a timing issue or like you say air leak
Get some wd40 and whilst car is running spray any suspect areas with it ,you will either see the leak as will show bubbling or hear when the car starts to change its note as it struggles to consume the wd40 When it does this then you have found the cause of leak
Hope that helps and also make sence too haha

Thanks for the reply I have read about that but I am yet to try it. I can only see the induction pipe though and I don't think that has a hole in as I took it off and inspected it, I was wondering if there was another pipe below that or around there somewhere?

There will probably be some small breather pipes attached to both the rocker cover possibly to a black plastic pot and also the inlet manifold too ? Without seeing car its hard to tell am sure those cars run the sas system too don't they ??
Is it cvh engine or zetec ??
Just lash anything you think may be a breather pipe in wd40 like I say whilst running when you find the leak it will quickly become apparent as will run rough for few split seconds or die as wd40 is not very combustible when drawn into engine via the leak

Also check the pipe that goes from inlet to the brake servo too as these can also leak
