Hi all just asking on behalf of my brother who's got a Mk2 fez Its an '84 with the 1.3 CVH but I think he wants a bit more speed, but as he's younger than me insurance cost is an ever present issue, so would a 1.6 CVH (probably on carbs for simplicity) be a worthwhile swap which balances the costs against power gain? obviously a zetec swap would be nice but more involved and more expensive to insure (I would assume) Any point in tuning the 1.3 if a swap isn't viable? Also how much work would be involved in a 1.3 to 1.6 swap? did a quick google of this and most of the questions asked seem to be people wanting to swap their 1.1 for a 1.6 so it is any easier going from CVH to CVH over Valencia(?, Kent? I'm not a ford expert ) to CVH? Just looking to get a bit of info, largely to satisfy my curiosity.. Thanks!

straight swap if you replicate the 1300 into 1600 , curse word easy and much faster,.

Posted up on here recently about this as a rambling reply to a CVH wanted add!
Honestly the mis-information regards compatibility of 1.3 and 1.6 CVH parts on the web is staggering. Lots of "oh I did this, or my mate did that, I've been told such and such..."
There are a few differences, but if you can acquire as much as possible from the 1.6 donor, as a straight engine swap the installation will not cause many difficulties. I am not up on my festers and scrotes so couldn't list the ancillary differences entirely
The engines themselves have a considerable number of differences, but a lot of parts interchangability.
The 1.3 CVH is used by some in the Spedeworth 1300 stock car series. In my view it's not a bad engine at all, and people are far too quick to dismiss it in favour of it's longer stroked brother. With a fresh and well built top end, the 1300 CVH makes for a nice revvy little unit. Ok not an all out grunt machine, but capable and pleasant.
OK, so I am a bit biased having owned more than my fair share of Scimitar SS1 1300's, I've also cornered the market in 1300CVH parts too. Even have a brand new engine tucked away!

Current: Reliant "750" Super Robin, Scimitar SS1s - 2 x 1300, 1 x 1600, 1 x 1800ti. 76 years off the road between them! Also - Mitsubishi Galant Sport and Hyundai Coupe Gen3

Hmm ok, so theoretically speaking, if we were to take the 1.3 out but keep the 5 speed box in, the 1.6 should bolt the box and mounts fine? I suspect this is one of those things where its easier to see the two engines in front of you so you can see the differences.. I was going to ask as well, are there different ancillary layouts for the fiesta and escort 1.6? some seem to mention cutting some space to allow for the alternator but then others say its not needed! When I drove it, I did think the 1.3 pulled well enough, sure its not going to set the world on fire but it gets along alright He was talking about zetec conversions but as we're both pretty new to swapping engines I figured it would be safer to stick with something that would be easier to fit

With it being a MK2 Fiesta it will be possible to get classic car insurance. In my experience when you tell them clearly on the phone that a different engine is fitted they reply with 'a what?, er, ok' and continue with your quote. I think if you said the 't' word (turbo) that might change the insurance cost but other than that... I wouldn't make it a concern. So go ahead with the fuel injected Zetec 2.0

oooh not cheap but I think the ecoboost could be a good future engine swap, good power and economy don't think the ecoboost or zetec could compare with the CVH for ease of fitment though
