Having stripped the donor Super Snipe for all the goodies I am disassembling the appropriate components for refurbishment. First up is the front suspension setup but I'm having conflicting ideas on lowering methods. I have discarded the notion of notching the crossmember or the chassis legs so it is down to spring cutting, welding in a cup/basket to drop the bottom of the coil spring into, or....? Input welcome as usual.

Oh hello! I'm sometimes dubious about Steve Kirks' proportioning but all the same, that is rather pleasant! (I'm keeping an eye on a set of Rostyles with a view to banding for a similarish look)There was also a Motorvation'd Snipe somewhere within the mags first two years IIRC. Have you got a direct link to that image, please Hotwire?

Now I have seen the image on something larger than the screen on my iPhone I am wondering what car has arches like the ones on the pink 'un?
I am looking at replacing the arches and with OE replacements being pretty extortionate, alternatives are being considered....oh and those wheels would have to be 18-20's given the size of the car!

Are you mad? Lol, the disc brakes are uninspiring with the standard snarling 112 - odd ponies plonked very heavily in the engine bay!
In all seriousness, a Ford 300ci (4.9) straight six would be my ideal choice - torquier than an SBF with that six cylinder smoothness, BUT the braking would have to be improved considerably!

You make me think of the more recent Chrysler Jeep straight sixes.. You could even claim they were almost 'in the family'.

Humber Super Snipe - the UK's 55 Chevy.
A Ford 289/302 V8 would fit very nicely - shorter than the 6 and only a 60 degree V so not too wide either.
Keep the chrome - it will cost literally £1,000's to rechrome later on if you ruin/paint it.
Lovely old cars - window rubbers will probably be your biggest problems

After Chrysler bought out Rootes I believe some Super Snipes and Imperials had Mopar small block V8s installed in them as prototypes or special low-volume production vehicles. They also tried to slot the 273 Commando into the Sunbeam Tiger but it wouldn't fit.

That said, nothing is set in stone. As for bright work, I have pretty much two complete sets....:-)

Granted, it looks lovely - however, horses being for courses I don't want to go V8 right now.

Well, not much has happened since the theft of some the choice parts.... A bit of a scrabble around underneath has revealed more welding than first thought but the relevant panels are on order. A few other goodies on order and on the verge of buying some rims but can't decide between Cragar Deluxe or Smoothies. Also, being as some arch work is needed and the arches are available I'm toying with the idea of replacing the lower rear arches with front items - a Photoshop opportunity if anyone fancies mucking about with the images.... Anyone know of any trustworthy outfits/individuals who could do the welding around the swindon area? There are one or two things I'm not comfortable doing.

This is the sort of post I hoped never to have to make given the roller coaster I've had with this car already but it looks like it's going to have to go. I was due to take on a lockup and get her in there but it's fallen through and I can't find anywhere else. The house is rammed with spares from The breaker and it's too damp outside to be able to do anything. :-(
