Anyone any experience with DVLA Sorn form (V890)

HI folks,

Bought a car recently, it was on the really old style blue v5. Last owner had it since 1989, came through in my own name fine, waited until the new v5 came through so i had the reference number to SORN it.

Thing is, it wouldn't work online, so i had to fill in the V890. I cant remember exactly when i sent this off, but it was a fair while ago and as its been off the road since 1989, and unsorned in my name for ages because it took them so long to turn the logbook around, I don't want a hefty fine.

Anyone had any experience in this? as its still showing unlicensed and I'm wondering how long its going to be till they sort it...

Where do i stand if they try it on?

Sounds to me like you've made a reasonable effort to comply with their 'rules'.

Just call them? You don't need proof of postage, you just need to be able to say you posted it.

If it's been off the road since 1989 you won't be able to SORN it assuming they haven't changed the rules recently. SORN should only apply to vehicles which have been taken off the road from 1998.

Maybe worth phoning to confirm.

my fasty aint been on the road since before SORN started,
i've owned it at least 5 years, its in my name and i've never
had any come back from DVLA about it

Is it just a case of leaving it then it'll be licensed when i put it on the road?

As long as you have the red V5 then all should be good left as is according to how I understand the system. Always worth keeping copies of any forms you've sent in with proof of postage if you can. When you're ready, insure as normal, pre-book mot then tax.

Well the form has gone so either way, if it works it works, if it doesnt then I'm alright.

If you do receive a 'fine' just ignore it they have no legal grounds to demand any money from you.
The only thing they can fine you for is using or keeping an unlicensed car on the road and then they can only claim back tax and the costs of clamping or towage so you have nothing to worry about if the car is kept off road.
