I just put a 3ft breaker bar on the bolt and put it on the floor (same method as the video but with less chance of shagging something, more chance of flinging the car onto the ground i suppose). Disable the fuel/ignition and pulse the starter to crack it free. Stop every 3 pulses or so to make sure the socket hasn't twisted. If you've got enough room it's worth smacking the end of the bolt a few times to give it a shock. Just don't peen it over

Lock the flywheel by jamming it against the gearbox housing with some kind of metal 'wedge'. This worked on a few k-series, and an MR2 without fail.

I recently did the front pulley dampner on my X3 2.0d.
is the car throwing its front air con belts, if so its the pully! i heard a knock, but waited till this started to happen.
You deffo need to do this job on a ramp, i tried the starter method, no joy.
Using a 5Ft pinch bar i jammed the flywheel then lowered the cars weight down on the bar to jam it vertically.
using a 5ft breaker bar from underside both feet on inside of wheel, break off.
swap belts pulley. now depending on which engine you have i think the older models where torqued to 320lb/ft, job done reinstall trim, happy days.
the 2.0d last tech update for that series of engine increased the torque on the bolt using an initial torque, then i think 180 odd degree's, I pre torqued, set the wrench to 320lb/ft out of curiosity, marked 0 and 180degrees on the pulley and socket, 320 clicked off at around 90 degree's so i recon there is a good 500lB/Ft in it. BTW i think it is a stretch bolt so use the new one supplied.
double check the TIS, i am working from memory here.
the local indy only charged me 1 hr labour to use his ramp.
