I think the owner will take it back to the Isle of Wight when it is finished. The exhaust manifold is sprayed with VHT (high temp) paint, and the cork gaskets are from the "Cambridge Rebores" refurbishment of the engine. I've been doing some electrical stuff as the new wiring loom has been delivered.

I see you're sticking with the original hotwiring setup. At least there's no spare fuse to make it easier for them...

A bit more done as I have cleaned up and sprayed the coil and air cleaner, then put them in place.

I have cleaned up the distributor and put it in the block, then I cleaned and sprayed the dynamo and put it on the engine. Both are now connected to the loom so steady progress.

That's interesting, the "before" shots show a Gold Seal reconditioned engine, but the "after" pics have a green "Austin" badged lump. There is bound to be a good reason for this, but I don't know what it is.
Should the dynamo be black with silver end plates? Can't remember seeing any green ones, but I don't know everything, so I could be wrong.

Well spotted - that is how the engine reconditioners (Cambridge Rebores) did the engine...... and again the dynamo had green paint under the dirt so I kept it that colour, there are some green ones in the "Morris Minor Restorers guide" book. - easily changed though. I started to install the wiper motor and spindles today but then thought that I would check the operation - Nothing! It is an old Lucas unit that could be undone so I took the crank and gearbox apart and discovered the motor spindle was seized. I then took off the other end plate to expose the brushes and wobble the armature with some petrol and oil around the seized bearing. Soon it came free so I cleaned it all up, repacked the gearbox with grease - as the original lubricant was a bit "crumbley", then reassembled it section by section checking that it ran as I went. I also repolished the commutator, after I had cleaned the slots between the segments. The cable drive and wiper spindles were also re lubricated and I now have a smooth, quiet wiper drive system. (unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me today so no pics).

The wipers on mine don't work, but there's plenty of electrical bits missing, before it's necessary to check inside the motor. I think it's the original wiper setup still. It just seems to be mounted in a new place, from memory. But who knows! That's a while off being a major problem in my build, at the moment.

Hi Varelse Yes the wiper motor location is changed on later Minors to the bulkhead/inner wing area above the exhaust. Mine is behind the dashboard to the right of the instrument panel which is in front of the steering wheel - really awkward to get to!!

Interesting, as mine isn't particularly new (still a MM), but the motor is definitely mounted on what I thought was an afterthought of a panel over what's left of the exhaust, but that sounds like it could be standard? Do you know when they swapped the position. Was it with the Series II? Nothing surprises me when it comes to the jumble that is my Minor, haha. Hopefully will be patching some holes this week! Finally, some progress!

One wiper motor on its mounting bracket behind the corner of the dashboard - it is the original paint on both but I don't know whether to repaint the mounting bracket - and lose the "patina"? And I've also stuck on the roof the original sound insulation matting!

Hah. Now THAT looks like an afterthought. "Hmm, this 'big' expanse of unsupported tin tends to drum a bit, eh? Better put a bit of matting on it, I suppose!" A friend of mine has access to newer technology sound deadening at bargain prices due to the audio installs he does. I think I'm going to double the weight of the car plastering it where ever I can fit it when I get to that point.

Now the Ronart is nearly finished, I am back on with the Morris as the owner wants it ready for the end of May.....So the rear wings have gone back on with the boot lid just resting in place.

Thanks JP More work on the Morris - I stripped the bumpers to get the steel aprons straight and into the painters, then I cleaned up the irons and got them sprayed with primer and satin black, there will be new chrome bumpers fitted later. Then I loosely put on the front wings.... ...and couldn't resist putting the bonnet and front apron in place!

The middle section of the headling is now in place (sorry for the poor picture) and I have just put the empty doors in place with a couple of loose bolts to keep them out of the way! Most of the remaining parts were ordered from Morris Minor East Sussex and they arrived yesterday so I will be cracking on over the next couple of weeks.
