Anyone used Shiply to move a car?

Hi all, i need to get my Cortina transported about 10 mls and ive been getting a few quotes thru Shiply which seem reasonable, has anyone used them? Is there anything i should beware of, i.e hidden charges, do the companies that bid get checked out, insurance etc? Ive not heard much about them and googling doesn't throw back much so far. Any advice would be appreciated

Make sure the driver/ vehicle is issued for transporting customers cars and also it is a full flat bed lift and not a suspended tow (if the car isn't road worthy)

Have you asked around the local professional recovery companies it shouldn't be more than £50 for a local lift.

Ps. I'm not is any way suggesting that all independents are not fully insured just that some may only be covered for scrap. banger/ race cars or carrying their own vehicles.

I use shiply quite a lot. As long as you're careful and check the transport providers feedback, you'll be fine.

Also, if you're in a rush, make sure you sort out a date before accepting the quote.

The price you see is the price you pay with no hidden charges any longer; this wasn't the case not so long ago. Shiply do still take a chunk of the fee though.

I've used it 5 times and never had a problem, as said before just check their feedback before accepting a bid.

I have and found some really bad damage under the car looking as if it fell off the ramps but they obviously refused it was them, it ruined the inside of a alloy wheel which had recently had a part worn fitted and had only been driven to and from a mot so can't work out where the damage came from, only explanation was the transport company. The bumper scraped the whole way off the truck when he dropped it off and it looked as if it was going to rip off too.

But I didn't take picture of the underside of the car to prove it, so be careful! And take tons of pics to prove condition before you do.

Shiply drivers do jobs for almost nothing, what do you expect.

Wasnt shiply i used, but a simmilar place called uship i think, but exactly the same idea, and they were brilliant, ended up using a company called cpr, collected the vehicle in question from norwich and dropped it off to dorset for us with no problems at all......

I had a bit of a mare with shiply.

Make sure you choose well. I got a quote, paid the deposit and then me and the seller spent two weeks trying to get the courier to do the job. He'd arrange it, not turn up and then be uncontactable before e got his wife to leave us both voicemails with a poor excuse. This was also a guy with 400 glowing feedback.

Had to get another driver to do it, and he did it no problem, but i still havent got my deposit back from shiply despite much battling. So be careful, but it otherwise works fine.

I had a very short lead time to get a car moved locally. Having booked via a quote through Shiply and paid the deposit, they were too slow to inform the provider so I then had to book a local transport company. Lesson learned. Now I have a trusted local provider of recovery services I'll stick to using them if possible.

I'm sure the chap that quoted would have been good, it was just the system that let me down.

Cheers all, ill try a few local places and see what they want to charge. Ill have a think then, its not urgent to get it moved but would give me a bit more time to do some work on it before winter

I used eBay to select someone to move a car from London to Leicester. Just fired off an identical email to check price and insurance with a few companies in the London area, then paid on delivery.

No deposit and easy!

I`m in Chesterfield, so if you`re not too far away, I`ll happily do it for £50. If you`re too far though, you`d be better off going with Shiply, or a more local company.

Yep used them twice, first time was when I swapped my MGB for a Tiger Kit Car. The guy drove Derby to Milton Keynes and back to do the swap and was only £100. Second time we really struggled for a cheap move within Milton Keynes (about 10miles) and ended up costing £50. Still good service but seemed a lot. Especially as the car was worth maybe a few hundred.

To be fair, short journeys will always be proportionately more expensive and the value of the car, unless in tens or even hundreds, of thousands is largely irrelevant to the cost of moving it.

Shiply only really works if you can find someone who's been already been paid to do a job and has an empty wagon going the other way through tour area and the time to do your job.
Otherwise, for a ten mile job, phone a local recovery operator and get them to price it, you might be surprised.

I've used Shiply dozens of times for cars and bikes, ones I've bought and ones I've sold.
Never really had a problem with them except for some ambitious or vague arrival times.
It's all about the feedback that the drivers have, check that out on the site and get them to confirm in a message that they're insured and whatnot.
