Overview
For sale we have a 1987 BMW 318i Auto. This car is verging on a time-warp look in to the E30 series of the 1980s, with both a low owner count and a low mileage too.

The detail of this car is as follows;
History
This BMW has been owned by one family since new – predominantly by one lady who owned the car from new. A couple of years ago she suffered a stroke and went in to a care home and since then the car has been passed around the family, with three owners in total.
We purchased the vehicle from the nephew of the original owner. He explained that his aunt was a hoarder and as such, has not yet found the original service book or history file. He’s offered to pass it on if found but I think we should assume that we won’t receive it. Paperwork wise then, sadly, there is just the last two MOT certificates and three previous tax discs, along with the V5.
However, with the car’s low 76,000 miles from new and the current condition it is clear to see that this car has been well looked after and serviced regularly. All fluids in the car were in great condition when we collected it.
The BMW is MOT’d until 29th Jun 2015 - no advisories – and the road fund licence expires on 31st January 2015. The car has covered approx. 76,500 miles and is HPI clear.
Body
Overall the bodywork is in excellent condition. The Olive Green Metallic paintwork polishes up well with a deep shine. There are a few small marks generally as would be expected for the age of the car but overall it is very clean.
There is a small dent in the leading edge of the off-side wing and dent in the bumper chrome from what looks like a parking incident. There is also some very small bubbling in the front of the arch lip of this wing. The chassis of the car however is completely straight, as is the underside which is rust free and surprisingly fresh.
Overall this car looks fantastic, with its period colour and chrome, it gets plenty of looks when you’re driving around in it.
Mechanical/Running gear
As expected with a car of this low mileage that has been well cared for, the mechanicals of the car are in great condition. The engine starts from hot and cold with no problems and runs very smoothly. The auto box changes well and kick-down operates as it should.
This car is not quick, but wafts along smoothly and solidly showing off the great build quality.
Since acquiring the car, we have performed oil and filter change, air filer change, fitted a new battery and replaced the rear brake shoes and one brake cylinder. All four tyres are as new and the steel wheels have been repainted.
The car now needs nothing other than regular servicing and enjoying it.
Interior
The interior is in good overall condition, with no rattles or squeaks and is still pretty fresh. The car was specified with power steering and electric mirrors from the factory, but manual windows and no stereo was fitted.
Sadly, as is the case with many of these early E30’s, the front seats have a couple of splits in them from where they have gone a little thread-bare and the dash top has a few cracks in it. We contemplated changing the dash for a crack free one, but when you see the overall originality of the car it just doesn’t seem right to change it. (This is the same reason why we haven’t replaced the original front dealer number plate that is cracked.)
The boot has the tool kit, spare wheel, jack and wheel brace present. We have replaced both rear light seals with new ones as the old ones were weeping a little. It’s surprising just how big the boot is on this car!
Since the MOT in June, the speedo decided to stop working. Despite attempts to have it repaired, this didn't cure the fault so a second hand speedo has been fitted to the car, showing 111,500 miles. We have a signed and stamped letter from the local MOT station verifying the original mileage and speedo change, the original speedo comes with the car too.
Summary
This is such a nice, solid car to drive. It brings a new feel to just cruising around compared to more modern cars and gets a lot of appreciating looks and comments. It puts a smile on your face when your drive it.
The advert just doesn’t do this car justice so please, if you are seriously interested, come and take a look at the car in the flesh. Any inspection is welcome.
