A very cool car. A mate of mines sister had one in the mid 90's and I always thought then 'how cool'. I think hers was a metallic gold colour if memory serves me correctly.

Maybe you could spice it up with decals? An orange side stripe would be very 70's I reckon.
Btw I just noticed I already knew the article Mr B0ll0x posted, Gasoline is the single best classic car magazine ever (at least in France). They have incredibly detailed reviews with relevant anecdotes, very knowledgeable folks showing how they rebuild cars and engines, and it's always an interesting read.

Yes that's a good idea - I 'll see if there are any period stripes that were used. Cheers

Series 1 Bagheera...owned by my brother since '88. It's had two major rebuilds since then. The rust problem in the structure can be a killer. The front chassis legs, crossmember and torsion bar suspension are lifted straight from the SIMCA 1100. The 1100 front end already had a rust problem (see my 1100 pickup thread..!!) add to that MATRa's bulkhead, sills etc that had a notable lack of drainage and rust protection...the Uk climate and many just dissolved. Great cars though,,, I had a '77 Series 2 'S' some years ago but sold it when I was racing SIMCA 1000's. Agree about 'Gazoline'...brilliant mag.... It's invaluable with info for our SIMCA/MATRA projects. I think I have some photos of Bagheeras with various designs of side stripes...will look them out. I'm editor of SIMCA Club Uk's mag...PM me for more info.

THe 'bare bones' of a Bagheera. Rebuilt structure of a Series 1 with some of the panels bonded/rivetted back on. Here seen at an NEC show on the MATRA stand. Now in Brother Kev's garage waiting to be finished... maybe with more 'poke' thanks to 'J' power from Honda or Toyota..

Hah. This thing is glorious! No one would even know what had happened if that drove past over here. Although, it DOES have handy grab handles on the rear pillars for enthusiastic youths on skateboards? What PCD do they roll on?

I get the magaAzine from the Australian club. There are at least a couple of Bagheeras and one or two of the later Murena 3 seaters over there. The wheel pcd is 4x98 which is shared with the SIMCAs they are based on. Using the same pcd as FIATs, Lancias and Alfas etc. has supplied a wide choice of alloys.

I struggle to find anything in 4x100. Really, that many in Australia? I find that quite surprising. I bet they're all in South Australia. Everything over this side of The Great Nothing is old Holden and Ford...

Very cool looking car. It must be the width of a van to have three seats or are they very cramped and close to each other?. 120bph from a 1.4 is impressive as well

I guess it must have felt/been wide when new - but compared to modern cars it looks small. You can get three in with OK levels of comfort. The drivers position is at a slight angle to allow more back room for the three seats. The rolling road tune up helped a lot in setting the twin carbs up and the dyno showed 110-120 at the wheels. The PO also fitted a 205 gti box giving the car 5 speeds and making it nimble.
Inevitably there is rust on the car - but the PO's restoration seems to have held up well and I will be laying it up for winter to avoid the worst of the salty bad weather. The steel structure still seems sound and quite tidy though.

A 5 speed box must make a bit of difference to refinement and make it more driveable without too big a gap between each cog.
