How long have you owned it?
What is the underside like as I know these are quite susceptible to the old tin worm?
Is there any advisories on last MOT?
Also has it had the the 2nd gen chain timing tensioners fitted (i.e. not the original plastic ones), and the throttle body changed to the newer one (i.e. to stop motorway stalling issues)?
Any rattle from engine/chain when starting from cold? If you put head under bonnet while someone else starts it?
Any history for the waterpump/thermostat being changed?
What brand/model are the new new tyres?
Sorry for all the questions, very interested!

Good spot Meltedcheese, i'd seen it too but it didn't click with me!
So Mgrover, you have had the car for a total of 10 days presuming you picked it up on the day you won it on Ebay?? You're right, you haven't had it long!
According to the seller on Ebay, the aircon is probably up the shoot and also the rear arches look like they are going, only on small spot of paint flaking off but you can see it bubbling all around it. This is at odds with your description of no rust and everything works as it should (interior), plus you're asking for more than a grand extra on what you paid for it. Have you spent money on it fixing those things?
Still interested but more info needed on the above really!
Cheers

Minor or not, the car has signs of rust and that is a major factor given just how many of these end up being scrapped due to rust issues. Just enjoy it. The XKR doesn't drive an awful lot different in my opinion.

I was hoping to offer a bit less than the £3k though for a start and when I saw you paid £1850 for it I thought that is about right now knowing about the rust and the faulty aircon. Will send you a PM though to discuss.

Tbf on the OP... Nobody bats an eye lid when dealers are making profit (As an example KGF sell top end cars and they seem to do well). Dealers attempt/achieve a profit everytime they try/sell a car so I don't see why it should be a concern or make a difference if somebody is selling on as long as what they're selling is legit and correct tbh, surely we're only bothered if it's worth what we're willing to pay?
Personally I thought it was worth £2k when I saw it on ebay and somebody got a good car.
FWIW XJR's are very nice cars, silky smooth and well put together, whoever buys it (if it's as described) won't be disappointed with one and I'm sure if they do pay what it's advertised for, then they won't feel hard done by.
Horses for courses an all that ay.

I agree entirely on XJRs. They're truly superb cars...if well looked after. A neglected one can be a money pit.
I also agree that there's no harm in making money on cars. If you're lucky enough to get a good deal, you'd be daft not to make a few quid. However, it's when people try to hide the fact they've bought it to sell on that can nark people.
Not saying this counts in this case, just my twopence worth.
Onto the car, it does look a nice one. Even the Nikasil shouldn't be an issue if it's got this far.
Personally, I'd keep the XJR over an XKR. I just prefer the looks. However, each to their own!

I wasn`t saying you were trying to hide anything, just that if some traders/enthusiasts/sellers do, it can sometimes annoy potential buyers. I agree it`s getting OTT. The car does look a good example, and it`s still a lot of car, even at the asking price.

I couldn't care less about buyer or seller opinion on this but feel this thread has escalated because of me, yoda960 is a fellow vbricker and I myself have purchased things off him in the past. A good honest fellow buyer and seller. I was interested in the car when originally on eBay, it was a good honest listing, thorough, pretty concise and from an experienced eBayer trader. Innocently or sneakily, whatever you want to call it. If you see that same car come up for sale just over a week later alarm bells should be ringing in even the most inexperienced buyer. People can be pretty good at offloading a nail of a car to the next guy if they see fit, especially cash exchange outside of eBay. Or equally, can be a good way of making money, just need to be smart about it. No harm in looking out for others that is what the forum should be about. So why not just try your luck by just re-writing the listing and get it back up on eBay if it didn't do the car justice?
