Just mulling over ideas at the moment...................again, I have a very nice and stylish speedo for my 33 Austin, I want a tach to match, anybody on here make a face if I can provide a sample of the font

If you can get me a good quality photo of the speedo you want the tacho to match, I'm sure I can do something you'll be pleased with.

There are lots of other bits of info I'll need, but if you PM me your number, I am 99% sure I can custom make you a tacho face to match the speedo. Even a backlit one if you wanted it?

I made this today to give an idea of what can be done.

Taking this image from the internet:



I created a CAD file to replicate the design (which took quite a while!) and from that made this tachometer gauge face:





It's fairly dark in this here room so trying to take a steady photo this time of night wasn't too easy. The definition in the flesh is a lot crisper and sharper....

But the best bit, it's translucent white acrylic so can be backlit.






That's just one example of what can be done. Pretty much any letter style, layout, shape, design can be done. Different colour face? Sure. Any logo? Even a pattern? Definitely.

Now that's interesting! As a rough guide how much for something like that doing?

Unfortunately giving a rough price is almost impossible because it will depend on the size of gauge, colour of face and probably more importantly, how much time I have to spend doing any design work? If I have to design the whole thing myself from a photo then it's going to take a lot more time and cost more than a design someone sends me finished, as a DXF that I can just make the face from.

The gauge above (100mm) would probably cost about £40 to make if the design was sent to me as a DXF that opens properly on my software. Probably more like £100-£140 (depending on complexity of design) if I had to do everything myself from a photo/supplied image etc...as with anything like this, the time spent designing is the killer with the pricing. Unlike most places though, I'm more than happy to make one off and custom items.

I used to do loads of car fascia clocks for a company that imported cars and wanted to make them read in miles per hour. Ours were screen printed to match the original method of manufacture. As Mystery Machine says, creating the artwork to print from is the really time consuming part.
