I think I remember this car, if my memory serves me right it belonged to the late Jimmy Dunsten who was in the RMOC. I think he was actually a professional paint sprayer and used to do the paint for Derek at GM6 unless someone can correct me?
I do recall the paintwork was top notch but that was probably around 20 years ago!

Yup, that's the one. I have the resto file and took it down to Derek at GM6 this summer (early on in my negotiations) . It was Carnelian red and I think that's how it will be repainted one day. For now, redpinksilver will have to do. It's going to be a mission and a half to return all the trim to standard. All the gutter and window surrounds have been painted black along with much of the interior. It's been done well but I wouldn't have. So much of it is in excellent order, floors, carpets, original tool roll and grey boot box, seats etc but as you'll see from the next batch of pictures (when I sort them out) my parts stores are going to be taking a bashing. Fixed this: Made a hole...... Filled up hole with metal, bit of filler and some (Land Rover Rioja Red) painty painty. No pics as schedule was a bit tight! (Dog, ducks, chickens, cat sitting) . Full new set of michelins...on the wipers. Whatever next. Sent from my HTC Desire C using proboards

I realise my last post was a little too informative, poorly illustrated and perhaps a bit compact... My dramatic MOT failure was due to this. The picture makes it look at least 4.73 times worse than it was. A bit of cutty outy weldy patchy sticky togethery followed by approximately painty and here we are. Then I turned my attention to these. I'm sure they were great in 1997 but I hate them. A lot. Fortunately, in a bag of things and stuff that came with the car, were these: So (I know it's not exciting) these got stuck on. If you're a Monza geekoid, only very late cars (end of 1985 onwards) had side repeaters. That was a useful bit of trivia which you'll never be able to use. Hopefully I'll be able to bring my 3 together in a thread over the next few months. Today was a good day. Sent from South Central without using my AK

You should be knighted for services to GM restoration... and treated for iron oxide addiction shortly thereafter.
I wish I had half your energy for these wonderful shenanigans :/

Heh heh, thanks I've had my tetanus shot. Just a couple of pictures to illustrate the fading of the paint. The lacquer is totally intact but the red has lost its pigment. Bummer. The proof will be in the driving. I need an ECU temp sensor but it works so I'll stick some rent on it next month and get some miles done. Sent from my crow scope using proboards

Such a shame the paint has faded that bad. Best get the Dulux and a roller out! Paint aside still looks like a great car, you lucky sod!

i always thought it was weird they needed side repeaters when the indicators were deliberately wrap around (like many of 80s vaux)

Today, whilst on an Opel derived treasure quest, I found the boot floor spare wheel board thing was missing. I have also found that my stock of replacements has gone missing, sad times. Still, shiny new spare! If anyone ever needs to know what a 99% intact parcel shelf looks like: Just waiting for payday to tax it.... Sent from my evil empire using proboards

Today, I thought I'd tax the big pink one. How did this go? Painless. I then went to the petrol station. This was going fine until I got back to the secret bunker: So I did some jacking up to deal with it. This went not well too Looks like I'll be needing a tank then. Thanks, modern unleaded, for being rubbish and ruining my fuel lines. Sent from my drip tray using proboardsawdust

Yup, sadly I think the tank is holed too, either way it's going to be tank out so I'd better have a replacement to hand. Ah well, I'll have to put off the road tests for now. Sent from my lounge with some chocolate and a bottle of vino tinto using proboards

GOOD NEWS!
Massive leak was a dangling breather that had perished and was simply missing in some places.
BAD NEWS!
Tank out job.
GOOD NEWS!
All sorted.
*FYI, removing a Monza tank on your own when it has a quantity of petrol in it is not easy. Fortunately a customer arrived while I was at a critical stage so he helped. Refitting, I used the transmission lift (should have thought of that earlier!)
Road report coming soon!

*FYI, removing a Monza tank on your own when it has a quantity of petrol in it is not easy. Your not wrong ! took mine out last year to clean and check for rust on the underside of the boot floor etc, had about 1/4 of a tank in it, I tried to siphon some out before dropping the tank and just ended up with several mouth fulls of petrol!
i used a trolley jack and a piece of wood to spread the load, and your right it's not realy a one person job.
