Took my 100E out for its maiden voyage this evening  however that has highlighted a problem with the gearbox. I'd been driving it round the yard no problem but on the road I went for 5th, it seemed to slot in fine but when I lifted the clutch, no drive. It's fine and quiet in every other gear, and it looks like its going in far enough although if you really lean on it and lift the clutch up you can get it to crunch a bit, but otherwise nothing! The box is one that just came with an engine I bought, and was as such untested. I just don't want to go too far in it if there's something about to drop out in there |

If you've never used it before, it probably has a stripped gear on 5th. I've seen several T9 boxes do this over the years, mainly as a result of a diff failure.

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in |

If you've never used it before, it probably has a stripped gear on 5th. I've seen several T9 boxes do this over the years, mainly as a result of a diff failure. Oh 4rse  had a play this evening and it seems to pop into gear fine, but if you really shove the lever forwards and lift the clutch it will graunch. But it's not the same as the synchro crunch my Mini has on second, you can kinda feel the teeth rubbing together but not engaging. And the formally erratic speedo has decided to take some time off too  Oh we'll, many thanks for your help and, erm, anyone got a spare T9 in their back pocket? |

i had this with my lada when i had a tran x in it, there is a slider on the side, or sometrhing, i don't actualyl know ,i just know my mate went under the car and then i had 5th...
i hope its that for you.

I doubte it, the ford box has internal selectors there's nothing outside that would influence the gear selection at all. |

there is some slider thing on the side that was stopping it from going far ennough forward.

Ah sorry i see what you meen, i was thinking an external slider or selector  that's the 5th gear locking plate so trouble selecting 5th might be behind there but if the gearstick actually goes into 5th i doubt it but you never know, i havn't experianced eecry problem with the type 9 (it feels like it sometimes LOL ). |

Well, I've had a rummage around with it and put it in gear with a couple of screwdrivers rather than the stick to try and see if it was going in far enough, and it does look as if it is. I'll pop that plate off and have a look just to be sure tho |

Your name had come up in a 'who do you know who might have one' conversation with bodieanddoyle iirc Had a play with that plate last night and still no joy only thing I've noticed the last few times I've tried it is now its noisy every time you pull the clutch up in 5th, where as to start with you had to really shove it in (ooer)to get any noise out of it. Don't know if its something getting better or worse in there! |
