Guys and gals,
Come up against a slight problem with a mates car that we're trying to sort for its mot whilst he's on holiday. We've nearly done the welding and a few other bits, but come up against an issue on some ball joint rubbers of all things.
Most of them are straight forward enough, just normal undo, pop he joint, remove old rubber fit new one, and put clip into the retaining groove, however one of them has got us completely confused as it has no rubber whatsoever, and no retaining groove for the rubber to sit into? Almost looks like it needs some sort of all encapsulating boot rather than the standard size one that you can get as replacements.
Anyone come across anything like this before, and how on earth did you get round it?? I've seen a couple of rubber/plastic covers online that look like they might possibly work, just put onto the joint, then everything reconnected, but they don't exactly do a proper job of sealing the joint against debris.....
Oh, the part/car in question is the top track rod end on a k plate rover 2000, lives partially under the bonnet, partially under the top of the wing.
Cheers,
Pete
