quick one fellas ,
I run my a4 1.9tdi on bio and it seems fine , I saw Tesco are doing veg oil 2 x 5ltrs for £8 ,
is it just used oil that needs to be treated for the glycerine before it can be used in an engine? can I chuch unused veg oil in with my bio if I wanted without it making the pump leak?,.

Just used mate, the heating breaks it down then is needs the bad bits taking out As for the seals IME some do some don't? the later it is the more likely it will have safe seals but i couldn't say for sure unless i'd tryed it, my lucas pump leaks if i use mnore than 25% (ish) SVO (straight veg oil, IE new) to diesel, not found a bosch yet that leaks on SVO but then the bosch units i've had were all later than my lucas? they tend to swell back up and re seal if you go back to diesel IME so i'd try it and see TBH ?

I'd be careful of veg in Lucas pumps, because of the small size of the vanes they can seize trying to pump veg on a cold morning and throw the cambelt.

Agree with above. If it has a Bosch fuel pump, your probably well safe to go with 50/50. Lucas pumps, hmmm pass....

The tdi motors will not run on veggie as far as i know due to the increased viscosity of the oil hence the need to remove the glycerin to thin the oil down so your ecu doesnt shut the motor down

It probably won't shut down, but it won't run well and it'll need very regular oil changes due to unburnt veg oil mixing with the oil. Problem is, veg oil burns slow, which isn't such a big problem in an indirect injection engine. The fuel is injected into a prechamber, and then drawn into the combustion chamber, so it has time to warm up which helps it burn. In direct injection its injected straight into the combustion chamber so it doesn't have time to warm up. For running veg, you want an old, low tech IDI engine, like a PSA XUD or an old pre-CDI Merc diesel.

what ive been doing when I fill up with bio to be on the sake side is make sure I have a little diesel in the tank to help thin it down a bit , what ill do if I add any straight oil to it is wait till summer and do a mix , although I'm getting proper bio diesel from a local firm for £1 a ltr , if I take it away in drums I can push it to 84p a ltr sometimes
