Hi all
I'm ditching the air ride from my cube as I want to turn it into a car I can just turn on, drive off, drive anywhere, bounce over speedbumps, park on kerbs etc without reaching for switches or cracking sumps.
As part of this thought process I'm thinking of going for chunky tyres (215 on a 7") and high sidewalls to go for a semi-jacked up look but want to check whether this is likely to cause me issues other than speedo misreading.
Cheers in advance Phil

may well rub bumpers or inner arches etc. depends what the original size is

Sorry I should have clarified that - I won't go so high that it will catch bodywork - at standard height the cube has a lot of arch clearance space.

This is a can of worms and many will say there is no difference. I did this on my Ka initially (the 15" wheels should have been shod with 195/45R15s, but they came with the more commonly available 195/50s). The issues I had. A few. These included: - the rear wheels catching the arches badly (rear passengers were a no no and without passengers speed bumps required alot of car
- slower acceleration (it felt like it gained around another few seconds if I am honest! With the higher unsprung weight I guess this was not surprising). The MPG was not too great either since I was flooring it everywhere in order to get it to move
- The car looked like it was on stilts, and not jacked up at all
Saying that, my Focus with the same diameter 17" wheels exhibited some of the same issues (worse acceleration and a decrease in MPG), but the Ka was fine on the Ford Racing wheels with 195/45s as was the Stag going from 14"s (With the wrong (smaller) tyres on to 15"s (with tyres of the correct rolling radius ; they were lightweight Rays wheels though).

fuel consumption around town will suffer too. Need more gas to get up to speed. Better on long runs though

I don't mind the stilted look, that's kind of what I'm going for.
In terms of mpg would it be %age equivalent? Ie 10% increase in rolling radius = 10% worse consumption?
The rubbing arches would put me off though on standard suspension

I've decided to stick to standard rolling radius now in case I get the urge to fit coilovers.
