This has been happening for a while now, the car will start fine for days then will just refuse to start. Turns over as usual but just wont fire up. If I leave it for maybe a couple of hours or until the next day she'll fire up fine again? Any ideas on what to look at? It's almost like it's flooding, can k jet injection cars flood? Many thanks for any input

When you say the cars seems to have flooded does the engine actually turn over quite swiftly? Leaky injectors could be one cause and they are quite simple to check on a 924 non Turbo . OTOH, does the fuel pump prime when you start the car from cold? I do not know if they are like the Escorts but my 944 did prime the fuel pump. Try possibly going from no. 1 to 2 a couple of times to see if the car does prime the pump. IIRC fuel filters are simple enough to change on them .

Generally speaking they will still fire up without the cold start injector ; many K-Jetronic cars run with them disconnected with no ill effects.

Replaced the old cold start injector with no change. New battery but still turns over quite slowly...maybe starter motor wiring needs looking at? Just annoying that it is so intermittent put new seals on all the injectors but guess there could be a leak there somewhere?

Check that both pumps (in tank and external) are pumping when cranking, they don't come on with the ignition on the first stage. Fuel pump relays can go faulty, often a quick dab of the soldering iron at each joint sorts them.
Have you got a full list of things you have replaced since getting the car?

That sounds like the fuel pump relay to me. Mine did the same thing. Cold starts were very intermittent. Once I fitted the new relay it was fine.

I had a very similar fault with my 1986 728i. After a lot of head scratching it finally turned out to be the direct live feed wire from the battery + post to the fuel pump relay. On these cars there is a direct feed bypassing the fusebox. The nut on the battery post was a bit loose resulting in intermittant power supply to the relay. One twist of the spanner sorted it.

From the above - check the earthing points! If the starter is turning slowly, attach a jump lead from the body of the starter to the engine.

Mine was like this recently, found I was getting condensation in the dizzy cap. Just gave everything (plugs, leads, dizzy cap) a good clean and wd40. Starts on the 1st turn now. Also worth checking your aux air valve is working, they can stick open/closed.

Thanks for the replies chaps, could well be a battery wiring issue, freshly charged and she generally turns 1st turn of the key
