No, sorry not the same.
However the senator motor fan assembly is as the Carlton and senator shared the same architecture
Resistor pack failure is common but the restor packs are different for ac or non ac cars

Hmm, I cant see the Senator being any less rare... Any good places to source these motors? There is always Carltons and Senators breaking on ebay or on owners club sites. I've been looking for a late model saloon one (complete) for a month to break for spares. Finding whole ones in reasonable condition for the parts I want isn't so easy Uncle Derek at GM6 Spares is always worth an ask - he rarely throws stuff away

If you have trouble finding a resistor, just wire in a few variable resistors from Maplin. I can check the resistance on mine and then advise which 'fixed' resistors to buy (quick, cheap fix, and will last longer)?
The fan unit looks like my Astra one, but just one half (it doesn't have the dual fan). Are they independent?
I really reckon the Omega uses the same fan unit and resistor (maybe).

No, they are dual non independant. Had a look at omegas but that, like every vauxhall, seems to be a single fan as per the bowl configuration. I take the point about breakers cropping up from time to time, but having dealt with many it can be difficult convincing them to take a fan out.

Try GM6 Spares as already mentioned. Derek can be expensive but Ive been round his place (he is based between Lands End and Penzance so you probably cant just pop in unfortunately!) and he has so much stuff its incredible. He does mail order etc.

We have success. Stripped the motor down and cleaned the contacts. With direct power it now kicks to life. That's a relief.
Just a thermal resistor solution to find now.

Even if you do find one the thermal fuses pop as the motor gets old and draws more current. You can bridge them with and insulated connector

usedabused, Heater shouldn't be an issue now, but thanks for the idea! bstardchild, it would be good to have even if it does blow just so I can do the mods and retain the original plug.

OK, if I was to alter the plug connector could I feasibly use a different resistor pack?

I made a post on Total Carlton linking to this thread for you Overdrive, one of the admins has come back saying they don't have anything to approve and asked you to register again and see how it goes this time.

I'd say its very much worthwhile going on there.
Its not a big club by any means but there are helpful members who respond to technical stuff quickly and loads of parts for sale all the time.
If you want, PM me your email addy and I will pass it onto the admin.
