Huzzah! I know where you got this from If you spotted the other one down there then that belongs to paulw so while he's not on here a huge amount I am sure he can lend advice too. I did see the other one...and everything else that was down there too! I thought I'd died and gone to heaven...that place is AMAZING!

hello Phil I think that's a cracking car for what you paid for it, but I suspect its first long run in a while has done for it. But there's no advantage to putting a Chevy in it, (and I'm not anti-Chevy, my slingshot has an SBC!) as there's lots of Mopar options that will bolt in. Rebuilding the 273 is possible and can give you 250-300bhp with some work, but it has a very small bore which limits valve sizes so a 318 like Boswell's is an easy swap. One thing that catches people out is that the 273/318/340 are internally balanced (like most engines any of us would know) but the 360s use external balancing, which means that the front balancer and flywheel (or torque converter on an auto) are out of balance to counteract the innards. That means if you put a 360 in and bolt it up to your flywheel it will shake like a broken washing machine (this is exactly what a professional hot rod shop had done to mine before I got it). My Barracuda is my third of these A-body mopars, and I've spent far too much time researching and modifying them, and happy to give you the benefit of my mistakes! It helps if you work out what you want to end up with and how much budget you might have, because that will help you to decide whether to change to later 5x4.5 PCD parts to get bigger brakes, for example. And what you do about the rear axle - if you want big 17 inch wheels you can get a reasonably common B-body axle to fit and run more backspacing, but if not you have to find the super rare A-body axles. You can mod a Jeep axle - one of the club members did this and I think it only stood him about £150 for a 4.5 pcd and LSD axle of the right width. Summit do a few options 5x4 wheels: www.summitracing.com/int/search/part-type/wheels/wheel-bolt-pattern/5-x-4-inHeaders are expensive, but if you go for a torquey street engine you might not miss them. One tip for buying parts is to ship by sea through Ron at www.stsimports.co.uk/ if you don't need something urgently - I've saved hundreds this way. I've got a bunch of engines and might have some coming up for sale soon, plans for mine are long and complicated but end up with it circuit racing :-) Cheers Paul

Rumour is that for some reason they had to get away before the scrutineers were able to check the engine capacity after that Goodwood race ;-)

Very nice indeed. One hates to sounds cliché but a good drop and big rims wouldn't go a miss.

I've got a bunch of engines and might have some coming up for sale soon, plans for mine are long and complicated but end up with it circuit racing. I could be interested in an engine, I need to figure out what to do but rebuilding the engine thats in it could be a time consuming and costly process. I can't believe all the replies, never thought it'd get this many responses...really appreciate all the advice, information and pictures for inspiration. I think I'll leave the suspension largely stock for now, lowered slightly with better wheels but nothing extreme. I'll be coverting it to 4.5 pcd for sure as its so much easier to find wheels, and don't worry...no Chevy engine! I should have a few hours tomorrow to get something done...watch this space!

Nice.. something you may want to think about is the rear diff from an Australia Valiant/Charger/Regal. The earlier AP5's used a different PCD from the later models, and they were exported to South Africa as well I think.
We got a slant 6 in standard chargers, 265ci, but they were quite quick for the time and used to keep up with the equivalent V8 Ford's and Holdens of the time.

Hello Nice car mate, I followed boswell from the MMA site to come and have a look, if you want 4 inch PCD wheels look on australian Ebay all mopars over there until 1969 had 5 on 4 PCD... Aussie wheel makers ROH and Aunger did slot mags etc in this size and with the correct offset. anytghing that fits a VC VE VF VG Valiant will fit. rings are more likley to be gummed/rusted and stuck. take it on a little road trip and see if it clears up look at castle auto in australia for headers, shorty block huggers and DIY header kits. their headers fit RHD A bodies but they can advise on what will fit yours. www.caenterprises.com.auyellaterra used to do an Eaton m90 kit for the 273 and 318 motors. aussie diffs. M75 and M78 from Borg warner/BTR Engineering/Spicer Axle Australia. you would need the narrow housing from a VC VE VF or VG. or if you what big tyres the m75 from a Chrysler Centura is narrower. i don't know if the spring perches will be in the right place the m78 from the aussie nissan skyline is narrower still and some came with 28 spline axles. 28 spline axle M78 will live behind 300-400 BHP and 350 ftlb or torque if you don't drive like a nutter and side step the clutch every oportunity the M75 (7.5 inch ring gear) M78 7.8 inch ring gear) diffs used the same centre you just need the right pinion and ring gear size for your housing. and you only want the sure grip cone centre diff the open diffs are easily broken however i'd suggest you use a 8 1/4 or 8 3/4 both would need to be cut down unless you found an A body one. the 8 1/4 was used in some Dusters and darts but it might still be too wide and will be 5 on 4.5 PCD studed. anyway i have chuntered on too much ta Dave

Yeah, unfortunately I've had a massive bill which means if I don't sell a few things I'll lose my garage and possibly house. The smoke has cleared somewhat, a few times letting it get warm etc and it seems better now...not perfect but better!

don't you guys have any fab shops which do banded steels and can also change the center section to a wanted wheel, where the bolt pattern is?
In other words,
Choose your preferred steel wheels and just take them and your original wheels to a capable fab shop and they cut and weld you a nice set of steelies with custom width and off set.
I have one set done from Sierra 14" steelies. From 5.5" to 8" width and off set changed from 36 to 0. Fits nicely under stock arched Mk3 Capri. No throw at all. All done in lathe. This all cost me 200 euros, exluding steel wheels and freight to fab shop.
Cheers
