Very early Sprite Mk2 (chassis number in 4000s), with several rare features that were discontinued only a few months into production. Believed to be one of the earliest surviving genuine RHD examples.
Red with black interior & red piping. Matching numbers and complete. Needs the rebuilt (but never run) engine installing, welding to floor, sills, & rear spring hangers, brake rebuild (due to lack of use for 9 years), and probably also a new rad before it can go back on the road.
Paintwork is old but very presentable, and so could easily get away with just repainting sill repairs & engine bay rather than full respray. Hood, interior etc all good (including a brand new tonneau cover just before being laid up in '05) aside from carpets, which need new floor sections (tunnel & rear cockpit carpet ok). Includes the rare optional rear seat cushion! Could do with having the engine bay repainted as currently black hammerite.
Includes correct ventilated steels, unused set of new chrome AH hubcaps, correct Frogeye type steering wheel (rare - 2nd hand, these are silly money) etc. Only part known to be missing is the correct horn push (which is available new).
Rebuilt but not run engine is the correct 948 unit, but bored to 998 (essentially a 66 thou overbore iirc) to run 998 mini pistons & conrods rather than the foul 948 pinch bolt conrods. Fully balanced bottom end with ARP bolts & centre main bearing strap. Fitted with an unleaded head which has been deshrouded around the valves (also skimmed to correct the resulting change in compression ratio) and Swiftune SW5 cam.
So... what is it worth? I'm not interested in 'bung it on ebay for 99p starting bid and see what it fetches' answers as due to the logistics of where I am, and where the vehicle is in storage, an ebay auction is currently not an option at the moment. I am trying to get an idea of what is a sensible asking price, especially since Mk2s seem to be going up in value over recent years.
Thank you in advance for any help with this!
