don't think i've really shown this thing off on here... so I might as well make a thread I bought this before the Summer. Always wanted one but could never afford one. They don't depreciate. I eventually bought one off ebay and had it delivered to me. Japanese parallel import with 15k miles. I love it. Everybody asks if its a bonneville or if i've restored it. It's a 2002 but the reg makes it a bit more conspicuous. Before i'd even bought it I ordered some ace bars. And the day after getting it I got them on. Lots of cable rerouting and head scratching but there it was... Even as a stock bike this thing is phenomenal. Not much power and doesnt handle as well as my old SV650 but it is so well balanced and smooth. Decided to remove the tank bling for more covert stickers. Then took it across Scotland like I did the previous year on my DRZ400 (I go through a lot of bikes) And that is basically how it has stayed for months. But with winter coming i've stuck it in the garage so I can fettle Originally was supposed to be having a tank and seat unit made up by a bloke in Dunfermline but i got messed around and messed around so I ordered loads of curse word from Japan instead. Nitroheads seat Short tail Jet kit Tulip slip on exhausts 20% stiffer EBC clutch springs to stop some slip I've been getting and to prevent more with the added torque. Excuse the girlfriend. She takes pride in sabotaging my photos! Main jets are larger (135 from standard 118) and slow jets have been left standard for now with the mixture screws out 4.5 turns over the standard 2.5-3. I have replaced the filter foam with unifoam but kept the standard airbox until I can sort out a pod set up. This is part of the reason why I bought a W650 and not a W800... carbs are easier to play with And this thing is now LOUD. But I love how it hammers down the street. Still got loads to do however. Fix the clutch, make a shorty front guard and smaller headlight and indicators to name a few. Will be getting done paycheck by paycheck so I can keep riding it inbetween. Ideas are always welcome

Cool bike.
Like your mods very much too.
I take it there is a decent aftermarket supply too.

I assume you're talking about "the tank shop", have only heard bad things about them unfortunately, mainly to do with delays. Bike looks good, these are handsome out of the box and really well served by Japanese aftermarket places. The blue Deus one is an all time fave. link They were out of my price range so I bought an XS650 instead!

I take it there is a decent aftermarket supply too. Thanks! Aftermarket supply is great in Japan because loads of folk tune them and do custom builds but not so much here as they didn't really sell. They were extremely well made and Kawasaki charged a premium which not many people justify. They do hold value exceptionally well though I assume you're talking about "the tank shop", have only heard bad things about them unfortunately, mainly to do with delays. The blue Deus one is an all time fave. link They were out of my price range so I bought an XS650 instead! Yeah that's him. Didn't want to name and shame haha. My dads friend Ray and I were both wanting to build bikes at the same time and he went to the tank shop. I contacted him about a week after that to get mine made too. He had his 2 months later and they are beautiful. They look fantastic. Unfortunately here was me 6 months down the line and every time I phoned him he said he hadn't started them or had an excuse. Shame really as his work is amazing. Think you just need to keep pestering him to get him to work. Yeah webike Japan has an incredible amount of aftermarket bits while we get hardly any in the uk. They are a lot cheaper buying them in Japan too but you get stung with import tax as I found out The deus w650s are lovely. I'd love to be able to put in the amount of custom work that goes into them. I really love XS's too but not only were they fetching legendary money at the time, I wanted something more modern just for piece of mind when I go on long trips etc.

Lowered the forks through the triple trees about an inch as I always thought the front end was a bit high compared to the back. Put on my new plate, did and oil & filter change and it can now sit until the nice weather for an MOT. Me and my dad are going to the TT this year which means riding down to Heysham... Not too sure how comfortable this will be. Actually i'm pretty sure i'll be in crippling buttock pain but at least it looks good. Still need to make a front mudguard... or buy one from Japan like I did my other bits. Ive got new clutch plates and EBC stiffer springs to go in as the clutch slips quite badly despite only having 16k. I also realistically need new pilot jets but I'll wait until later for that.

The pipe needs a bit of extra length because the caliper isn't centred on the rotation point, so on full lock it can't be too tight. That said, I think that's the original hose and it's now way too long because it's been lowered and I think it's got narrower bars on.

The handlebars went from big buckhorn American style bonneville ones to cafe bars and I re-used the pipe and cables rather than getting shorter ones. At some point i'll get a shorter braided line for the front but it does the job for now

These machines look great with upright, MX style bars. You'll see one like it and fall in luurve...

I honestly have this debate every other week... might just do it and see how I like it... I like flat trackers too

Doooooo iiiiiittttt. That looks amazing. I dunno what the geometry is like on the Kawa W but I can't imagine going to wide bars will do anything weird to the handling. You could always lop an inch off either side if it feels like a ship's rudder.

Noice. Took a bit of faffing to get the throttle to snap back properly but it all seems to be smooth and operational now. Reminds me of my old DRZ in terms of seating positing so i'm loving it as I can feel some hooliganism on the way. Payday is the 14th so I'm going to be getting a braided front line, new grips, smaller indies and a smaller headlight. Still need to make a front mudguard too then I can attempt an MOT when I think everythings done. On another note, I replaced the clutch springs and friction plates tonight because It was slipping quite badly under load before and It would never adjust right. The old friction plates were definitely worn but the springs were really bad. Not surprised it was slipping. The ends of the springs were getting quite thin and they were very scratches so looked as though they were rattling a bit. Didnt take pictures of this due to oily hands and the fact that it isnt actually that interesting Old left New right. I put most of the height difference due to the springs I used being EBC 20% stiffer jobbies, but the top coil on the old is about half as thick as the top coil on the new one. I used these on my SV650 and it made it awful in town because of how heavy the clutch was. 100% improvement though when pushing on. I only really buy them to please my inner manhood and put another few hairs on the chest.

I just put the lower bars on mine with mirror extenders, but only the stock Kawasaki low bars I did have plans to mod it but I think I will just fit some better fork springs as they dive a lot under braking and some hagon rear shocks and leave it stock after that Its a great bike not mega powerful but nice to ride

Think i'll be making some spacers for the top of the springs to put a bit of extra preload on. Nicest bike i've ever ridden despite being slow and cumbersome And for your viewing pleasures... She came out today for a warm up. Lovely.
