Apologies to the mods if this is the wrong place for this.
Anyway I need some advice from anyone who's created any websites lately. When I made my own site a few years ago I used a 2004 version of Dreamweaver on a Dell laptop. These are now both obsolete and my site desperately needs updating. I've struggled along for a while using the Dell on it's last legs but I know I's a stop-gap solution. The old software can't be installed on my current computer (it's way out of date anyway). I experimented with a different web design package called Serif which was rotten -hence the low price.
So The question is do I bite the bullet and invest in the up to date version of Dreamweaver (About £200.00 per year to subscribe on adobe cloud) or is there a more economical but decent quality alternative. I don't wantto create anything really fancy just spruce up what's already there and make it easy to keep up to date.
Any advice greatfully recieved. As a pennance for a dull post here's a Chevy El Camino

Web designer here, Aptana studio is free and works well, I use netbeans personally and have used notepad++ in the past. It's difficult to advise without knowing your coding ability. Not meaning any disrespect but if you arent very confident you could always install wordpress on your web host

I'll have a look at the things you've suggested there but I don't want to stuck into anything too far outside my comfort zone. Learning new software (for me) is a bit like getting in a car and finding all the controls do something different, like the pedals are in the wrong order etc. Ideally I'd like something I can import the old pages into and modify them rather than start from scratch. However, as Aptana is free it's worth looking into and I can always experiment with it without having lost anything but time if it's not for me. thanks.

I'm sure that adobe released cs2 or cs3 for free so it might be possible for you to get a more up-to-date version of dreamweaver for free if youre comfortable using it (2004 was back in the macromedia owned days). If you want any advice at any point just drop me a pm
