New parts: Newton Commercial in UK had started to produce red repro carpets to GTIs and I ordered one. Carpet arrived few weeks ago and it seems to be quality product and is comfortable too. I found used centre console, handbrake cover and and glove box from a swedish car dismatler for couple of quids (or krones ). All the parts were from 1989 model and all in good condition- probably storaged several years already..... Newton carpet kit includes new pieces to side of the centre console too. I probably change them so that the console color matches the new floor mat.

...and the rest: I found matching rear seat, parcel shelf and boot floor mat from a 205 GTI enthusiast from UK. He had also matching "dark grey" centre air vent and lower dash. Parcel shelf color was faded so I tried SEM Color Coat spray to renew the color.

The vinyl behind the back rest is though bit worn on seats. I might have to consider to have the vinyls replaced. SEM Color Coat spray worked nicely and parcel shelf is dark grey again. I´m happy with the result....

Small step forward: Pug started and seems to be running OK! New oil, coolant, water pump and both belts now changed.
Heater matrix was leaking inside that's also now renewed.
New stock exhaust just arrived and will be fitted next week. First start revealed that exhaust manifold is leaking. It's either cracked manifold or just the gasket- lets hope it's the latter.
Brakes are also now serviced: new discs & pads around, new brake hoses front and emergency brake cables rear + new fluids.
MOT is getting closer and closer... 😊

Also bought today another set of 1.9 GTI wheels. These are all SMR's and I'll be having these refurbished... I bought also fifth wheel for 30€ and that will be the new spare tyre wheel as that's anyway missing at the moment.

I bought used rear seat from UK which clearly has been fitted to a dismantled car stored outside. Thanks to that the seat has got smell of mold which seems to be hard to get rid off. I have vacuumed the seats twice, washed once with washing powder and also washed them with steam washer. Here's the next attempt with baking soda. Baking soda should kill the mold and remove the smell after vacuumed away. (According Google) Let's see if that helps. I also bought vinegar which should do the same thing, if baking soda does not remove everything....

Baking soda or vinegar did not remove the Mold smell completely, but let see if it goes away or I can live with. GTI still stands at the work shop yard. Yes, exhaust manifold was cracked. I found used one again from Sweden. Same manifold was fitted to PSA 2.0 8V engines and my "new" manifold started its life in a Citroën Evasion MPV. Dismantled Evasion was driven only ~90000km and manifold was in good condition. Also catalysator was broken too- nothing inside. New catalysators were easily available from Ebay so I bought one. Now GTI is waiting for new lambda sensor to be able to get the emissions right for MOT. (and engine light shines too) It runs though. My mate had driven it to petrol station and everything worked otherwise well. We bought new house this week so I finally get it inside own garage in following months and can do something finally myself.

Most of the parts from the centre console were missing including the radio. OEM Philips manufactured cassette player I found period correct Philips DC670 from local Peugeot forum here (for free- I just paid postage costs!). Radio was originally fitted to a 1990 Peugeot 405 but what I googled same the DC670 was used in Opel Kadetts / Vauxhall Astras from late 1988 so it should be just right for my 1989 GTI too. Radio code was missing but got that for £8,99 from online code calculator. Also found this picture from our family album. It´s from 1991 and I´m standing on the left. So 205 GTI purchase has been well planned... 26 years to be exact.

Interior needs minor work but it goes well, no wobbles, oil pressure and engine temperature OK. It was -1´c on friday and (summer) tyres are 15 years old so I had to be bit careful.

I´ve had limited time to work with GTI. Usual situation: work and family. Though some progress. I prepared today GTI (almost) MOT ready.... Rear seat fitted- looks OK. I found the rear seats from UK couple of months ago. Not perfect but either are the front seats (yet). I noticed also that one bracket is missing so back rests are now bolted only from the sides until I can get the bracket into my hands. I didn´t fit the new floor carpet because I am going take the seats off soon anyway once again....to wash everything inside. Also noticed the sun roof handle bolt do leak bit water inside. Must put silicone there soon... I also started to get rid of the aftermarket alarm (which did not work) First I thought I just take the alarm ECUs off (weather was rubbish today and no garage yet...) but after I took one relay and bonnet switch off Pug decided not to start anymore. This led spontaneus wiring delete. What a mess... In the end I found the fix. Cable from ignition switch to starter had alarm stuff between it. Did temporary fix to it in the end. Must solder it later then...

Also had locks serialed this week: New blank "NEIMAN" keys were done and fuel filler cap, boot lock and glove box re-serialed. Now Pug has got 1 key system again. (Although the glove box needs to be serialed once again- didn´t work...) Tomorrow I´ll have to try fix window washer. For reason it doesn´t work though fuse, relay are OK and pump is new too. Must be some sort of loose connection somewhere.

The fuse boards on these can cause problems, the same thing happened to my mum's 309 and the first thing to go was the windscreen washer. There are a few different options for repair: -fit a replacement fuse board, bypass the fuse board by taking the relevant wires out of the multiplugs at the fuse board and fitting an inline fuse or run a new feed from the switch to the pump. You can test to see if the fuse board is the problem by unplugging the multiplug at the fuse board, putting 12v down to the pump and checking for the input from the switch. You might also be able to open up the fuse board and repair it. Drop me a PM if you need a hand

Well luckily it was just a corroded plug- now window washer works. My car is a scandinavian spec car with headlight washer. Headlight washers do not work, must check the headlight washer pump later too. Fitted also panels to upper centre console. I noticed my car has got also seat heaters though the panel I obtained only has got holes for three switches. Must get the fourth seat heater switch and panel later too. Dash clock also works now. Used cigarette lighter which I bought had different kind of plug and no place for light bulb. Must start searching right kind of cigarette lighter. I also put my Philips cassette player into dash, but it´s not connected yet. Few bad pics, its bit too dark (and rainy) to work outside...

Which kind of Peugeot / Citroen cigarette lighter does fit into this kind of plug? The one I have now. It´s different and I do not want to change the original plug in car harness.

Good result then! Looks to be a nice car, worth hanging onto and enjoying - prices are only going one way at the moment.
