Shot in the dark but someone may be out there that can help. Have 2 ls400 engine sat here, but unsure of when they where made (need proof for BIVA eventually) I have the stamped numbers from the blocks but all online research is saying there is no definite way unless you have the logbook from donor car of which I have none

are there no casting marks with the date on them anywhere? may not be on the block itself but most of the cast parts bolted to it will have something surely?

Seems not no, I've been all over lextreme and it is a sore point, as Toyota HQ can't help with it without a car VIN number or registration

Hi, try looking on all the ancillaries some thing may have some thing resembling a date code. You may have to guesstimate it, if you can't find a definitive date. How are they going to dispute what you say it is.

I don't want the emissions test to be to current standard, ie needing a cat, so will need to prove its pre95'

can the dvla not help, the engine number is on the v5 so surly the dvla must have a record of the engine number so may be able to cross reference it to the vin/reg number of the car it came out of.

if you don't know the age of the engine it goes on a pre cat test.
