This has been discussed before, but nobody seemed sure what box to use, etc. However, I've just seen this ebay item 181633241425. looks interesting. If anybody from here is interested and buys it (ntdwm, by the way), let us all know the parts used. At least we'd have a definitive answer to this one then

I have to say, that looks suspiciously like an auto box... Here's the link. Was the NA V8 S-Type offered with a manual box? I know the supercharged 'R' was auto only.

As far as I know, all the V8 XJR's were auto so I would reckon thats an auto if it has indeed been lifted straight from an XJR

Looks like a manual box to me. Kind of like this one which goole is labelling as a T56 Tremec. Isn't the Jag link soemthing to do with Lincoln / Ford V8 bolt pattern (or maybe even teh block) being the same from when Ford owned Jag?

It's the s-type R that had the manual option. Most had the auto though.

Looks very much like the manual box I have in the workshop from a manual 3.0ltr V6 S-Type. The gear linkage attaches to the coupling above the output flange.

It's the s-type R that had the manual option. Most had the auto though. There wasn't a manual option for the S-Type R as far as I can see, although as mentioned above they may have used a manual box from a V6 S-type to mate to the V8 somehow

Does anyone know where the bowl is on the sump. The front or the rear. What sort of management would run this engine. Cheers

Looks very like the Gretrag manual box in the Trimph.
The shaft above the doughnut is the gear slector, the lever linkage is carried by a cast frame that links between the box and chassis.
And isn't shown!

Looks much like how the zf boxes in a bmw work on the linkage too.

Don't know if its relevant (or what we're looking at), but the manual gearbox from the S-type 2.7 Diesel fits the V8.

Don't know if its relevant (or what we're looking at), but the manual gearbox from the S-type 2.7 Diesel fits the V8. That's what I had heard, but couldn't find anybody who had actually done it and could actually confirm it as true (and could also explain what parts they used for the clutch/flywheel config, etc.)

I can say that wiring of this engine is major work because of the canbus system...someone was trying to fit it into a hotrod and was saying there is a lack of info about these engines...would be worth looking into ...
